She checked her clock again. Almost ten. He should be here soon.

A tapping on the window was heard and her heart skipped a beat.

Brooke jumped out of bed and ran up to the window. There, on the balcony, stood Louis.

She looked at him for a while, took in his perfection. He stood there patiently and waited for her to open the door. When she didn’t, he let himself in, and closed it carefully behind him.

“How are you feeling?” he asked. She knew that he was talking about earlier that day when she had cried over him. And how weak she had felt. She felt tears burn behind her her eyelids but she tried to blink them away.

     “I’m fine, just fine.”

He stepped closer and wiped her tears away with his thumb.

“It’s okay to cry, it’s not a sin. Do you know what I think?”

She leaned her cheek in his hand and closed her eyes, waiting for him to countinue.

“I believe that tears are the words the heart can’t say.”

She looked up in his face and gasped. He looked so understanding, so caring and (did she really see this?), sad.

“Louis, I...” she had no words to actually say anything. He shook his head.

“So how did it go today? Did you feed?”

     “Yes, I did.”

     “How did it go?”

“Good, I almost killed my housemaid but she’s fine, and she can’t remember a thing.”

Louis smiled and kissed the top of her head.

“How did you manage not to kill anyone in the beginning? I know you had those people to help you not to, but still. Or did you?”

Louis was silent for a moment.

“I didn’t. They didn’t teach me that killing a lot of humans was wrong and with the desire for blood, I did not try to fight againt it either. I’ve killed so many people without even care if the person lived alone with a little child. I do care about that now, because a baby can’t take care of itself and I wouldn’t take care of it. But I still kill, that is what I do to survive, and I enjoy it too, I’m not gonna lie, I love the feeling when that persons heart stopps, I can’t even explain it.”

Brooke closed her eyes in disgust. She would never be able to murder a human, at least not on purpose. How had he been able to kill a lonely mother and leave her child to die?

“Brooke, don’t judge me by my past, I don’t live there anymore. I can’t change the things that I did, and I’m not proud of it, but I can’t change it.”

“I know Louis, I know! And that was a very very long time ago, you’re not like that anymore, at least I don’t think you are.”

       “I’m not, I promise.”

She nodded.

He kissed her forhead and pulled her over to her bed.

“Come, sit with me.” He said and patted on the matress beside him. She sat down and he put his arm around her shoulders.

“If you ever want to talk, I’m here for you, Brooke.”

“I know that”, she said and leaned her head on his shoulder. “And I want you to know that you can talk to me too. I know that you’ve been through a lot, but I don’t know if you’ve really processed it. I am sure of that you will be there to help me whenever I’ll need it, but I want to help you too. I believe that you never got over your sisters death, but I also believe that you never got over your own death. You had no one there to love you, but I do, I have you. And my familly, I think. And Maya too.”
