I somehow woke up before Cody, which has never happened before because I love my sleep and he usually has things he needs to do early in the mornings. I guess it was just me being too nervous for school. I couldn't get up when I woke up however. Cody was holding on to me too tightly.
I've tried to get up in the middle of the night to pee sometimes and this is usually a problem I run into. Not a bad problem at all, but when you've gotta pee, you've gotta pee. No time to lay there and enjoy it when your bladder is screaming at you.
Now however, lots of time to lay here and enjoy it.
Eventually my alarm I had set started to go off. That's what woke Cody and all he did was let out a groan of annoyance and pull me closer.
"It's time to get up," I whispered. He didn't even open his eyes or bother to reply. "I have to pee," I lied and that made him open one eye to look at me.
"I don't believe you."
I smiled, "no, but I do need to get ready for school."
"No you don't," he sighed and closed his eyes as if to go back to sleep.
"I need to," I rolled my eyes. "I need to get up and get out there and show those meanies that I'm much better than them."
"That's not a bad idea..." He said slowly, "except if you call them meanies no one is going to take you seriously."
"Fair," I nodded, "I still need to get up."
"Five more minutes," he mumbled.
I rolled my eyes, "you always say that but your five minutes is more like an hour then school will be starting and I'll be late on my first day."
He let out a loud groan and somehow pulled me closer to him. "You're a nerd." Now I really don't want to move but I really also don't want to be late on my first day back. I need to show them the new me and prove to everyone - even myself - that I'm not that loser person I once was.
I know almost everything now and I'm stronger than any one of them hopes to be. I can do this. I can prove them all to be cowards. Someone should have told me.
I started to wiggle and eventually Cody got annoyed and rolled over the other way grumbling about how he was on vacation so he needed to get more sleep. I showered and dressed in black ripped jeans with a plain white tshirt and a black leather jacket. I curled my hair down my back and applied dark eyeshadow with a bright red lip. For my shoes I put on white vans and then grabbed a notebook and my purse with some pens.
"Damn babe," Cody groaned from the bed. "You gotta smell like me too, why'd you shower?"
I rolled my eyes again and jumped on top of him on the bed. It made him groan in pain a little bit so I laughed. "Good?"
He didn't respond so I got off of him and left. I heard him complain a little about not getting a kiss after I closed my room door but he was going to have to wait. Or in Cody style, show up at lunch or in the middle of a class just to get a kiss from me. I would be totally okay with that.
I sighed happily as soon as my butt sank into my own car finally. "Yes," I whispered to myself and grinned. It started easily and the sound made me feel so content. Today will be a good day.
The drive to school was automatic and I didn't even think the entire way until I finally saw the horde of cars and students. My stomach sunk and I almost slammed on the breaks. But I saw the stupid werewolf pack with Nathan in the lead and my confidence grew. I can handle them.
After I parked I confidently made my way into the school. Sunglasses made it easy to avoid eye contact with anyone who looked at me in aw, curiosity, or anger. I took them off inside finally and startled a few people in there before finding my locker and tossing them inside along with everything else I didn't need.
My first class I got even more stares. Mostly from the wolves. The humans were too caught up in catching up with each other.
They didn't even try to be subtle about it either. Often one of them would make eye contact with me and hold it until I looked away. Maybe they were trying to intimidate me or something, I wasn't sure. I just wanted to concentrate on school and get out of there as fast as I could. I didn't have time to worry about whatever any of them were saying in their stupid pack-link.
I was also very grateful I wasn't in the mental communication with all of these dipshits. Or anyone for that matter.
I love Cody but I don't need him nagging me all day long.
By lunch I was almost desperate for Cody to march in and distract me for five minutes. These people needed to concentrate on someone else's life rather than mine. Like maybe their own? If they do this all year I'm actually going to lose my mind.
Nathan stopped me at my locker just before I was going to escape outside to the parking lot to see if Cody was there.
"Can we talk Nicole?"
I clenched my teeth and turned away from him, grabbing my sunglasses and heading straight for the doors that will take me outside to Cody.
"Nicole," he snapped and suddenly he was standing in front of me.
"What," I growled and his eyes widened as if he didn't expect that answer from me. Or he just didn't expect me to act like a werewolf. Like him.
He blinked and stood taller, adjusting himself like that just made me smirk a little. He was afraid of me.
"I wold like to formally ask you to join the pack," then he cleared his throat. "And take on your born right role, as Beta."
I threw my head back and started to laugh so loudly even the humans left in the halls finally looked at me. I laughed hard, partially a real laugh, but mostly just to make Nathan feel small and nervous.
When I finished, I grinned at him in a way that made his eyes widen in fear. Then I side-stepped away from him and waltzed right to the door.
Cody was standing there, just outside the school, hands in his pockets, and grinning like me. Like a mad fool.
"That's my girl," he said as he wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me closer to his body. Knowing fully well that Nathan and other pack members were watching, he ruined my red lipstick.
