The next week rolled around, and it was Wednesday again.

and sure enough; Brendon was back, visiting me once again.

i sat at the stool to see a smiling Brendon behind the glass in front of me. We both pulled the receivers out of their holders and held them up to our ears.

"hello again Mr. Ross! Nice to see you again." he said in a rather chipper tone.

"someone's happy today." i acknowledge, adding a chuckle at the end.

"well, i try to be nice to people. even if i have had a shitty day, i shouldn't take it out on other people." Brendon sighs, but puts on a smile.

i raise an eyebrow, "has someone had a bad day?"

he shakes his head, "yeah.. i have." he sighs, "but we should really get to wo-"

"what happened?" i may not like to show my emotions, but that doesn't mean i don't like helping other people. well, of i care enough. this is mainly just to get out of talking about my stupid court case file.

and maybe i did care about the cute lawyers problems. just a little bit though.

Brendon gave me a look. a look that said 'wow, you're the only person that has asked me what's wrong.'

"i-i don't want to talk about it. plus we're just here on business."

"i'm sure it'll help if you talk about it. you can't keep your feelings bottled up inside." i said to him. wow, what i hypocrite i am.

he sighed in defeat. "it's my ex-fiancée." he blurts.

i nod to show i'm listening, "go on."

brendon looks up like he's still asking permission to continue, "h-he's not being clear with me. one day, he loves me and wants to be with me forever, then the next day.. he's gone, then he's back again with flowers and love songs and all this cheesy, romantic shit." he lets it all out. and to be honest, he looks more relieved.

i widen my eyes at the use of profanity. he looks like the kind of man who never swears. a boy who grew up in a church, made straight A's and has dreamed of being a lawyer since he was 6 years old.

clearly i was wrong.

i also notice, very quickly, that Brendon used the pronoun he, which caught my attention real fast.

so he likes dudes. nice.

"how long have you been with the guy?"

"5 years.."

"has he always been like this?"

brendon shakes his head in response, "only the past two months.. after we got engaged."

"maybe he's nervous about getting married. many people are like that. do you love him?"

this is when brendon keeps quiet. "i.. I don't know."

i nod, "well, i guess i don't really know you guys that well, but, all i can say is; if you really don't love him, don't waist your time with him." i smile trying to help. i still don't care all that much.

he returned the smile and looked up at me, "thank you, Ryan."

"so you're not thrown off by my whole." he did over exaggerated hand motions, "situation?"

"no, of course not." i wave it off, "because i'm the same way." i chuckle, and he joins in.

"wow, okay then." he said.

it was quiet for a minute, "okay, so, back to work." he said before it got awkward.

"now, for the testimony, do you have anyone who could speak, and help your case?" he asked me.

i shake my head, "no, nobody. i have, nobody."

brendon raises an eyebrow that says 'ok, stop messing around.'

"you're serious?"

"yep."

"nobody at all?"

"nope."

"no parent or guardian?"

"ones dead, and the other i haven't seen in almost 10 years."

brendon puts on a thoughtful face. "i'm telling you buddy, i have no one."

brendon looks at me with pity, "wow.. this is gonna be harder than i thought."

"well, anyways, you also have some papers to read and sign. I'll be sure to get them sent to you by next week, and you can..." i stopped paying attention at this point and i was thinking.

was i really alone?

i thought back to my past, before prison. my family.. friends.. co-workers.

wait.

"wait!" i cut brendon off.

"yes?"

"there is somebody." i inform.

"well, dammit who?" he asks getting out pen and paper, resting the phone between his shoulder and ear.

"Dan Keyes. he was a good friend of mine, and a co-worker. he's also the owner of the car i stole." i explain.

"Dan Keyes.." Brendon mumbles while writing it down. "awesome! i'll be sure to get in touch with him and see if i can ye him to testify."

i nod agreeing. the alarm indicating visiting hours were over rang, and our time was up.

"well, i guess i'll see you next week Ryan." brendon shrugs as we both stand up.

"yeah.. i guess."

"bye!" he waves me off, but i say something before i can go.

"good luck with.. your man." i say not knowing his partners name.

"Dallon. that's his name." brendon shrugs, and with that we're both off on our separate ways.

{A/N: hello it me.
