I sat on the bench waiting for this "Jay Carter" to show up.
I should have thought this through what if "Jay Carter" was joking when he said he was coming? Maybe I should text him, no, no that would look desperate, right? What if-
My thoughts go disrupted by someone yelling around the park I listened.
"MATCHMAKERRRRR! WHERE ARE YOUUUUU? IT'S JAYYYYY!"
I looked to see a man around my age a few inches taller than me he wore a black hoodie with cut off sleeves revealing a white long sleeve underneath and black skinny jeans. He had a dark brown fringe, he looked pretty attract-wait what.
I got up and slowly walked past him telling him to shut the fuck up because people are starting to stare at him then told him to follow me. He stopped yelling and began walking next to me.
"So you're the matchmaker, wow I was expecting someone dressed professionally with a clipboard and glasses," He said laughing a little.
I looked down at what I was wearing, a white knitted sweater with light blue jeans with my hair down, I was thinking about looking more professional but never had the motivation to do it.
He must have realized I was thinking about my looks since he quickly added, "Not that your looks are bad or anything."
I laughed, "I wouldn't care if my looks were bad anyway."
"Well you seemed to be thinking about it," he said, "anyways are you gonna find me a girlfriend or not."
"Yeah but I need to know your type first," I said
"Well I don't know uh, someone nice, cute, well I guess a girl who is the complete opposite of you," he said jokingly.
"Ha ha very funny I am serious, this is not a game it's my job," I said.
"Well then, I guess I don't want to look for a girlfriend I feel like making a friend instead," he said.
"Then good luck with that Jay, I'm the matchmaker, not the friend maker," I said turning to leave.
He stopped me "Come on I want to be your friend, are you always this introvertive?" He asked.
"Yes, yes I am and I like it that way so if you don't mind I'll be going now."
Just as I was about to leave he said, "No."
I turned to face him, "Excuse me?"
"I said no, you are not leaving because I do mind, a girl like you to never have fun is just sad! We are going somewhere fun whether you like it or not come on," he said as he grabbed my hand and yanked me towards a black car. He opened the door for me, I got in because I didn't want to be rude and anyways I did need some fun I work everyday maybe I need a break.
He began driving, he turned on the radio and 'Can't help falling in love' began playing he saw me cringe and asked, "What you don't like this song?"
"It's not that I don't like it, I just don't really understand it."
"What do you mean?" He asked.
I began turning red realizing I would have to explain that I've never fallen in love with anyone before so I quickly said: "Nothing, never mind."
He must have caught on because he then said, "No way!"
"What?" I asked even though I already knew he knew.
"You've never been in love!? How is that possible?!" he asked in astonishment.
At this point I was full on red and embarrassed so I just turned to looked out the window.
"How are you a matchmaker if you've never been in love?" He continued asking eventhough I clearly did not want to talk.
"I don't know! I just am, it's complicated," I said also wondering why I am a matchmaker.
For the rest of the ride we just drove in silence. We finally stopped and got out of the car.
"Where are we?" I asked looking at a big building called Max's funtime.
"An arcade" Jay said as we walked in.
"Hey Jay how's it going? You haven't been here in a while," said the man from behind the token counter.
"Hey uncle Max, I know I've been pretty busy lately, sorry, anyways this is uh," he turned to me and whispered, "shit I don't know your name."
"Hi, I'm Veronica," I told the man behind the counter.
"Hello Veronica I'm Jay's uncle, Max," he then looked at both of us and asked "so, how long have you two been together?"
I nearly choked on my own saliva.
"We are just friends uncle Max," Jay said as he handed his uncle a $20.
"Oh sorry," his uncle chuckled handing Jay a bag of coins "anyway, have fun Jay and Veronica," he smiled.
We walked around-well Jay walked around I just followed him.
"Sorry about that, my uncle is like that sometimes," Jay broke the silence that had crept in a while ago.
"It's fine my mom is like that too so I get it," I said laughing a little.
We made it to an air hockey table.
"Are you sure you wanna play this?" I asked.
"Yeah why?" He curiously questioned.
"Because I am a pro at this," I boasted.
"We'll see," he said.
After a couple of hours we finished playing, I won of course, and we ate pizza then decided to call it a day.
We drove back to the park since my car was there and we sat in the car for a while.
"Thanks I had fun," I grinned at him.
"Well I'm glad you did, I had fun too, I hope we can hang out more often," he smiled back.
"I do too," I admitted.
We sat there staring at each other for what felt like a long time until I said, "Well I should get going, it's pretty late um, see you later?"
"Oh, uh, yeah see you later, bye, drive safe," he scratched the back of his head.
I drove home and quickly went to bed I didn't even bother changing, I was so exhausted that I knocked out right away.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday went by fast I spent every one of those days with Jay and a few clients. Jay and I seemed to be getting really close we had a lot in common and had so much fun together. Things were good.
