Life became so simple.Several months had passed and there was still no sign of Michael or their mom. None of the boys really began to worry, however Gabriel was very anxious thinking about what Michael was doing with his time. Michael had pointed a gun at his own brother but failed to kill him so he stormed off and no one knows where he is or if he'll ever come back. It left an unsettling feeling in the pit of Gabriel's stomach.
Despite the fact that they were on their own, the Novak boys were okay. Lucifer worked at the nearby supermarket and brought most of the food to table. Cas and Gabriel kept going to school and Gabriel got a part time job working with Lucifer. Nobody asked them questions. Nobody bothered them. They were, for once, living in peace.
Cas continued to get help from Dean with his schoolwork and they were both pleased when some of his grades turned to D's and C's. Meanwhile, Dean started work at Singer Auto, a garage in town that was owned by a close family friend. Cas and Dean spent nearly all their time with each other and things were, for a while, perfect.
They were curled up with each other in Dean's bed one late Friday evening listening to the latest by U2 and snacking on popcorn and candy bars when Cas asked, "You got plans for next Friday night?"
Dean's voice came sweetly and thick. "Babe, you're the only one I ever hang out with and I only work Tuesday through Thursday. Of course I don't have plans." He giggled.
Cas sat up, holding Dean's head in his lap. "Well, good. My brothers decided to invite some people over and I figured since you've never really seen my house and friends before, you might want to come and hang out with us."
"What will I tell my dad?" This was the first thing Dean thought about because he knew his father was growing suspicious and the tension between them was building. He felt his dad's eyes on him every time Cas came in through the window or whenever they skipped class. Dean was waiting for the day John would find out and make their lives a living hell.
"Just tell him you got a date." Cas winked.
Dean scoffed. "He'll know." He paused to think. "What time?"
"Whenever. Anytime after school, really."
"Who's going to be there?"
Cas shrugged. "I dunno. Some of Lucifer's buddies and a few other friends of ours. If you want, we can just chill in my room."
Dean chuckled. "Okay, I'll be there." He reached up to kiss Cas on the lips, something he never seemed to get enough of. "But I can't do anything tomorrow."
Cas's face turned into a sad clown frown. Dean smiled apologetically. "Sam and I are going with our parents to visit a friend. He's in the hospital 'cause all his marbles aren't really there, ya know. We'll be gone all day."
Castiel climbed on top of Dean, straddling his waist with his knees, "Well then we'll just have to make the most of tonight then, won't we?" He flirted.
Dean giggled. "What did you have in mind?"
"Come back home with me." He whispered, his voice flirtatious and dirty. He was smoothing out wrinkles in Dean's shirt on his chest. "Let me show you around my room." Cas winked.
They entered through the back door of the Novak's house after carefully making their way across the street, shrouded by darkness and unseen by any disapproving eyes. Their house was small and unkempt. Liquor bottles littered the floors and surfaces, leaving the entire house filled with the revolting smell of alcohol. Dusty and neglected decorations were found here and there around the mistreated Novak home.
