"Nothing You Can Do, But You Can Learn
How To Be You In Time
It's Easy.
All You Need Is Love;
Love Is All You Need."
-The Beatles."Why can't you just let me be happy?!" Dean shouted. The front door slammed as John followed his son into the house and brought him into the living room.
"You're not happy, Dean! You think you're happy because of whatever this Cas kid has led you to believe!"
"He hasn't done anything wrong!" Dean cried. The moment he had been dreading for months was now here, hitting him right between the eyes. His heart felt heavy and broken, being tugged in two different directions.
"He made my son into something that I cannot stand for and will not except!" John pointed a nasty finger at Dean. "Son, you should've known from one look at the boy that he was going to be a shitstorm of trouble. And now look at you! You're falling behind in school, you're getting mixed up with the wrong people, you're drinking and smoking I don't even want to know what, you're lying to your own family, and frankly you're lying to yourself! Dean, this Cas kid isn't worth as much as the dirt on your boots and you know it! I am not going to let my son go down the same road as scum like him!"
Dean just cried silently, knowing he could never win against John Winchester. He may as well have beat Dean to death for all the pain Dean felt inside him. Tears flowed endlessly down his face and dripped to the floor. He couldn't look his father in the eyes. He just couldn't. Finally he whispered bravely, "He's not like that at all."
"Excuse me?" John spoke loudly and angrily. "Did I not make myself clear?!"
Dean spoke louder. "I said Cas is not like that! Maybe if you didn't judge people so harshly and so quickly, you would see Cas for the beautiful person that he is!"
John sighed and took a steady step toward his son. "Dean," he spoke quietly now. Somehow, it was scarier to hear him talk like this. He was past all anger. Now he was ready for consequence. "You are never sneaking out of this house again, you understand me?"
Dean nodded somberly. He stared down at the small wet stains on the floor. They kept reappearing as the tears fell from Dean's chin.
"And you are never to talk to this kid again. Don't even look at him."
Dean was silent.
"And if I find out that you are sneaking out of this house or skipping class or anything that you know full well you should not be doing... Well, just pray that there are angels up there on your side because I will not be as easy on you as I am right now." John stared down at his son, towering over him like a mountain.
"I hate you." Dean mumbled as he turned his head upwards to face his father.
John took a half step back. "Son, you don't like me and that's fine. It's not my job to be liked. It's my job to raise you right. Now go to your room, finish your homework, and get some sleep. You obviously need it."
Dean sulked to his room, defeated and sobbing almost uncontrollably. This pain was unbearable. He threw his schoolwork off his bed and it slammed against the opposite wall, papers falling all over the place. He slammed onto the mattress, burying his face into his pillow and letting his emotions overtake him. The crying didn't help to get rid of the pain in his heart. Dean felt himself slowly begin to understand just how bad things were getting. He had to make a choice. It needed to end.
He lay there until he lost track of the hours and began to drift to sleep when he heard tapping on his window. Dean ignored it. Then the tapping turned into loud knocking.
