More of a rant but eh.

I'm kinda mad at all the Italy x HRE stories that take place in present day. Wanna know why?

Italy himself.

So he's all happy-like, most likely with Germany (because God knows why we can't have a Italy x HRE story without GerIta), and he's just happy to be alive...

Until he realizes that it's August sixth.

In other words, the date where the Holy Roman Empire disbanded and, therefore, him dying.

Suddenly, Italy is just a complete mess. He becomes all depressed-like and mopey, because oh my God it's the anniversary of his crush dying. He simply can't function. And then Germany has to swoop in and be all hush hush Italy, it'll all be alright, just wait until tonight and blah blah blah

And then it's assumed he's fine the next day (probably because of last night)

Well lemme ask you something

WHY THE CRAP IS THE BABY SUDDENLY SO DEPRESSED

AND THEN HAPPY AGAIN UNTIL NEXT YEAR

Yes, Italy is probably a bit disheartened every year when the anniversary of Holy Rome's death rolls around. He was his first love, after all. But are you telling me that he simply can't function on that day because of HRE's death? And then simply forget about it the next day? Grow a freaking spine!

You'd think that he'd act a lot more mature about it. Perhaps visit the gravesite, maybe take a break on that day, but be otherwise very mature about it. Not freaking shut himself in his room and cry over the tattered remains of Holy Rome's uniform and some spaghetti as he ignores the rest of the world because no one can know my pain except Germany because he's such a hottie!

And then there's those stories that play out the "Germany is HRE" theory very poorly, but that's a topic for another day--

((btw I'm not hating on GerIta it's a very lovely galleon I'm just hating on how it plays out in these types of fanfics))

((but seriously, if Italy canonically opens up to Germany about having a previous male lover, why do people make him so secretive about it in the fanfics it's as if he already knows Germany is HRE even though in the fanfics it "seems so impossible" okay I'll shut up now--))
