After giving Sophia a dose of pain killers, some fluids, and putting fresh pajamas on her, I told Luke I'd take a turn on the couch. With tired eyes, he hesitantly agreed and got me a few pillows and new blankets from the closet. It really touched me how good Luke was with Sophia. He was so protective of her.

"Um, Angela? Take a picture, it'll last longer." Luke interrupted my thoughts and I was startled to realize I'd been watching him reach up to grab the blankets from the top shelf. I didn't stop looking even after he turned around. Blushing, I rolled my eyes at him and tossed a pillow off the couch at him.

"Ouch!" He played. "What, no thank you?" I walked over closer to him and took the pillows and blankets from his arms, looking up at him admiringly. "Thank you," I said and he smiled. He looked into my eyes for a moment before smiling again and turning to go up the stairs.

"Goodnight," he said to me. "Take care of her."

Luke left for work the next morning before I woke up at 7, and it horrifying me knowing he saw me sleeping, with messy hair and my mouth open. I shook it off as I checked on Sophia, who was still sleeping. I went upstairs and grabbed some fresh clothes and decided to shower downstairs, to be closer to Sophia. I hopped in the shower and left the door open a crack, so I'd hear her if she woke up.

As I got dressed and dried my hair, I heard her softly call for Luke. I quickly ran out to wish her good morning. I asked what she wanted for breakfast, even though I already knew the answer. I made her a bowl of strawberry shortcake and put on Frozen, at her request. As I cleaned the kitchen, I had an idea. After I finished, I sat next to her and paused the movie.

"Do you want to go outside?" I asked her quickly. "I think you're ready. Luke has a wheelchair in a closet for when you're ready. Do you think you are?" She seemed to be thinking for a few moments. She broke into a smile and I texted Luke and made sure my plan was alright with him. Several minutes later, he replied with "Yes! I'm so glad you asked, I didn't want to bring it up to you because I wasn't sure if you'd feel comfortable bringing her out alone. Tell her I wish I could be there, but maybe we'll go out to dinner later! Thank you so much." Attached, was a picture he'd taken of me sleeping that morning- looking horrible, as I'd imagined. I replied with a few emojis: a fist, an angry face, a crying laughing face, and a party hat. He replied with a devil emoji. I smiled to myself, realizing Luke and I were friends. I started out just taking care of his sister as her nurse, but we quickly grew to be kind of close. I was glad, because I was sharing a house with him for the next few weeks- or months.

I got Sophia ready for the day, dressing her in soft pink leggings, a t-shirt, a light sweater, and a pair of sneakers. I brushed her hair and teeth, then I finished getting myself ready and brought down the wheelchair, which was really more of a big stroller. I put my phone and wallet in a pocket on the back of it, set the brakes, and carefully set her in it. I brought some of her pain killers in chewable form, knowing her brain damage could cause major headaches at any time. The medicine, though, helped keep them away of taken reguarly. I pushed the stroller out the door, grabbing the key to the house Luke had given me, locked up, and headed toward the village. Luke lived pretty close to the water, too, so I decided to take her to see that after we went to some shops. Rows of quaint little businesses lined the street. Hair salons, a flower shop, a small grocery store, a bank, a few bakeries, a music store, a jewelry store, a book store- this street had every shop you'd ever need. I noticed Sophia eyeing the daisies in the window of the florist. I pushed the stroller in its direction, hearing a little bell ring as we entered.

"Welcome! What can I help you with?" A really friendly woman came out of a back room as we walked in. She introduced herself as Megan, and then I introduced Sophia and I and told her we wanted to look around. She brought us each a cup of lemonade as we walked between the rows and rows or flowers. Megan showed Sophia the coolers of roses, in every color. She showed us tulips, hydrangeas, lillies, daisies, and a bunch of different kinds of flowers of never even heard of. Sophia kept looking back at the pink tulips, and I made eye contact with Megan as she picked up the biggest bunch.

"For you," she said, holding them out to Sophia. I asked how much, but she insisted on giving them to Sophia as a gift. Sophia thanked her and I saw tears in her eyes, as she held her flowers like the were delicate China dolls and any sudden movement might break them. I decided to get another bouquet of flowers for the kitchen. I picked a bouquet containing yellow daisies, blue hydrangeas, a few white roses, some queen Anne's lace, and some green leaves to bulk it up. I payed her for my bouquet, and thanked her again, promising to return soon.

The shop next door was a bakery, and I giggled at Sophia's wide eyes as we entered and she saw the glass cases of deserts. We each got 2 raspberry macarons, as well as milkshakes. I also bought three large cupcakes to surprise Luke with after dinner. We finished the delicious sweets and headed to the next shop. We went into nearly every store, and when we finished, the stroller was loaded with a bunch of new things I couldn't help but buy for Sophia: her flowers, a Frozen board game, a sundress, a few fairytale books, a box of art supplies, and a delicate silver necklace with a little silver daisy hanging from the chain.

I'd spent a lot of money on her, and I began to wonder if Luke would think I was overstepping my boundaries. Finally though, on the walk to the water, I decided she deserved it, and that he would be happy I have her what she deserved, especially since he couldn't be there for her first outing since she got hurt. We sat by the water and she threw some crumbs to the ducks, before closing her eyes and dozing off. I knew her medication made her tired, and I felt bad for meeling her out so long. I immediately began pushing her back toward home.

Luke pulled in shortly after us, surprising me. As he walked in, yelling that he got off worked early, and ran excitedly to Sophia and then saw she was sleeping and couldn't hide the disappointment on his face. "I got her these," he said, taking a bouquet of pink tulips from behind his back. "They're her favorites." And smiled apologetically at him as I pointed to the vase of pink tulips on the coffee table. "Oh my god," he began. "You're amazing. Thank you so much. You're incredible. I don't know how you do it, but you always do the right thing." He noticed the bags on the couch and asked what was in them. "Go ahead," I told him, as he began looking through them all. He took out his wallet. "This is to much. I mean, it's amazing. I can't thank you enough. But I don't want you to pay for all of this. How much?"
"No Luke. I wanted to do this for her. It's a privelege. Please let me do this." He sighed and put his wallet away, thanking me again and telling me how much he appreciated what I did for Sophia. I truthfully told him it wasn't a big deal, and he told me to go relax for a while before we went to dinner.

Without much hesitation, I walked upstairs to my room and turned on a Lifetime movie. I don't know why, but I always loved murder mysteries and creepy crime shows.

I remembered an idea I'd had a few nights before. I took out my phone and searched for Luke on instagram. I found him after a moment and thanked him in my head for having a public account. He didn't have any recent posts, so it didn't take me long to find what I was looking for, even though he'd posted it almost a year ago. I clicked the username I was looking for, and opened a new private message.
