Disclaimer, I do not own Barry Allen or any other characters from the tv show The Flash, which this is based off of. I only own Mara and any others that may be made later on.

Barry's POV

I held onto Mara as she silently sobbed into my chest. It hurt to see her like this, especially since she's the strongest person I know. After a few minutes she pulls away abruptly, I look at her confused. She avoids my gaze as she stands up, me following close behind, and walks into the kitchen.

She places one hand on the counter and the other on her face, her back facing me. "Talk to me, what's going on?" Just as I was about to reach out to her she turns around with a small forced smile, wiping her tears. "I was just thinking that you could super speed over to Jitters and get us some coffee then we could head to S.T.A.R labs? I'll pay?"

I was taken aback, some would just simply agree but I had a feeling this was just an act. "Mara are you sure? we don't have to go, if you want we can wait here for Joe to ca-" "No! I mean, ugh, you know what I mean Barry. I don't want to sit here and waste a day over her. She doesn't get to have that kind of control over my life anymore. I can't live in fear. Just like you said Barry, this could all be an accident. I can't fall apart every time the phone rings, I'm not that sad little girl anymore, I won't be, I'm not." She was smiling now, a genuine one. God, that smile was gorgeous.

I was smiling too now, not the usual large grin that she gives me, but still a smile. This was one of the many things I loved about Mara. She's always able to bounce back. You see this girl who's lost so much in such a short amount of time and has all the reasons to hate the world or be sad all the time but she doesn't and she's not. She's warm, happy and bright. Caring, kind and selfless when no one would blame her for being selfish. That's how she has always helped with my mother's loss in ways she can't imagine. Mara inspires me.

I shake my head breaking out of my thoughts, "Coffee it is, I'll be right back, then we'll go to S.T.A.R labs and no, I'll pay." She laughs at this when I stop her from reaching into her purse.

"Thank you, Barry."

"Anytime," and with that I speed off.

Mara's POV

As soon as he's gone my phone rings and I jump a bit. Pull yourself together Mara, for heavens sake this isn't Pretty Little Liars. I check the caller ID this time, and I answer.

"Top of the morning to you Iris!"

"Ew, stop"

"Don't like my irish accent do you laddie?...or Is it lass?"

"I'm just gonna ignore that. So hey, I was wondering..."

"Iris I'm gonna stop you right there, whenever you start a sentence that way I always regret finishing the conversation because I'm never okay with what I have to end up doing."

"Well there's something in it for you..."

"And what would that be?"

"Well, you could come with me to this thing for moral support, and I know you hate having to go to boring rich people events, but what if you get to see Barry in a suit?"

I freeze, "Then I'm extremely okay with it." *gif*

"hmm, that's what I thought. We'll meet at Barry's lab, I'll text you the details."

Darn you Iris West.

I sat in my usual spot next to Cisco with my feet propped up and a lolly pop in my mouth. I was watching the monitors closely, that showed where Barry currently was in the city. "Ooo! Barry! there's a fire on Western and Third, Downtown. Go get em tiger!" He chuckles before taking off as I can tell by watching the little red dot on the screen. I was doing whatever I could to distract myself from the situation with my 'mom' and the fact that I still hadn't heard anything from Joe. "Barry, Barry!" Cisco says.
