The Other Sister

Prologue

Annaline looked over at her family from the stairs. They were laughing and having a good time, something she was used to seeing. Her parents and Annalise having a good time.

Annalise was her twin sister. They were both seventeen and looked almost identical. The only thing that made it easy for people to tell them apart was their style and attitude. Annalise was the pretty popular girl at their school, the perfect child. Annaline, on the other hand, was the one that everyone forgot. She was the nerdy sister that never wore anything other than jeans and a t-shirt. She never saw the need in trying to impress anyone, mainly because after they met Annalise, they didn't care to pay Annaline any attention. That was how things had been for a long time now.

She just shook her head, trying to keep the tears at bay. She didn't want to cry about it anymore. It wasn't worth it.

Annaline made it to her room and curled up on her bed. She was lost in her thoughts, curled up in a blanket, when her phone went off. Looking at the screen, she saw a text from Emily. Emily was one of the few friends she had.

Her friends didn't really know Annalise. All of them, except for Emily, went to a performing arts school. Emily went to school with Annaline at Pinewood High. Sawyer and Mellisa, their other friends, were going to the Sacred Heart School of Performing Arts. Mellisa was there for dance and Sawyer was attending for acting. The girls met at their dance company, while they met Sawyer because he was Emily's boyfriend.

She was kind of glad that they didn't really know her sister. They didn't have to deal with her 'I'm better than everyone' attitude. She loved her sister, but it got on her nerves.

She shook her head and looked at the text.

'My birthday is in two weeks and I'm having a sleepover with some of the other girls at the dance company. You should come. You would get to finally meet my brother. What do you think? It's going to be that Friday.' It said. Annaline shook her head, a small smile forming on her face. Her best-friend could always cheer her up, even when she didn't know she needed to.

'Sure, I'd love to. It would get me away from everything, which is exactly what I need. You, me, and all the girls just having some fun. Is Sawyer going to be there for a little bit?' She answered. Emily texted back almost immediately.

'Yep, he's just not going to stay all night. The only guy that will probably be there all night is my brother. So, you're coming for sure?' Emily texted back.

'Definitely. I don't care what my sister says; I'm going to be there. It's my best-friend's birthday! I'm not going to miss it for anything.' She answered with a full smile on her face. She could just imagine Emily squealing in delight!

'Great! I'll tell Mom. I can't wait!'

'I'll text you later. I'm fixing to get my computer and work on that essay for Mr. Mitchel's class.' She told her best-friend.

'I need to get working on that too! Thanks for reminding me! Text ya later!' Emily's final text read. Annaline just shook her head and got up to get her computer.

When she found her computer, there was a note sitting on top of it. It was from Annalise.

'Hey sis,' it read. 'Eric is racing this weekend, so we're going to go watch. I'll have some clothes sitting out for you to wear Saturday morning. Love you! Love, Annalise.' Annaline just shook her head.

This was how her sister was. Annaline wasn't the most popular kid in school and didn't have many friends, so her sister told her parents that she would take Annaline with her when she went out with friends. Really, it was just another way Annalise could control Annaline's life. As much as she loved her sister, Annalise believed that she could control every aspect of her life. Annaline was tired of it.
