 The Other Sister

Chapter 8

"I'm sorry this is keeping you out." Annaline told Jase as they drove towards Trenton. "I just didn't want her driving. She's been in about three minor wrecks and one major one and every time was because she was driving while upset."

"I don't mind. You were scared for her. I get it." He said. She was sitting in the middle again, wanting to be as close to Jase as possible. He comforted her in a way that others couldn't.

They had been driving for almost an hour and were turning into Trenton. Annaline pulled out her phone and called Mila.

"Hey, we're in Trenton. We'll be at the house in about three minutes." She told her friend as soon as she answered. She heard Mila let out a deep breath.

"Thank you. I know this is an inconvenience but I really appreciate it." She answered.

"I'd rather do this than have you get into another wreck." Annaline said. "I know how you drive when you're upset."

"I know you do. I always end up getting into some kind of accident and hurting myself." Mila told her friend.

"We're just now pulling in." Annaline said as she pointed out the driveway to Jase. The house was surrounded by vehicles of all sorts. Her brother was definitely having a party. "I'll come in. I want o say hi to Micky anyway."

"Alright," She answered. "I'm in my room right now. I can meet you down there."

"You don't have to. I'll come upstairs so that that way we can talk."

"So, is Micky the brother throwing the party?" Jase asked as they made their way inside. She nodded.

"Yeah, he's in his second year of college, so every time he visits he tries to throw one. Normally his parents don't allow it, but they're not here right now." She explained. "Micky's cool, but he likes to party too much sometimes. I'll introduce the two of you whenever I find him." The whole time she had to push people out of the way.

"Well well well, if it isn't little miss Annaline." She heard a familiar voice call out from across the room. She stopped and turned towards it only to see Micky.

"I've been looking for you!" She exclaimed, hurrying through the crowd. Those that were paying attention to him had turned her way, especially those who knew her. She didn't let that bother her though and just kept going.

"What are you doing here? I heard that you moved away!" He said, picking her up and twirling her around as he hugged her close. "Mila's been missing you like crazy!"

"She called. Something's up and she wanted to come stay with me since there's apparently no school here tomorrow." She answered. "I was hoping to see if you knew what was going on."

"I don't, but I can talk to her before you guys leave. So, who's the guy behind you?" He asked, gesturing to Jase. She smiled brightly at him.

"Micky, this is Jase. Jase, this is the party animal I was telling you about," She teased. She loved seeing Micky's reactions.

"I'm not that much of a party animal little girl. Besides, if I remember correctly, you liked your fair share of parties as well." He teased right back. She loved doing this. "But, I am Micky. How do you two know each other?"

"Annaline and my sister are good friends." He said. She smiled, knowing that he wasn't sure what else to say. She didn't either, so she didn't bother thinking about it much.

"There's more to it than that. Let me guess little one, you two aren't dating, but you are going out soon."

"How did you know that?" She asked. He just grinned.
