Once court was adjourned, my lawyer, Sherry, and I walked quickly into the hallway.

"See you in a week," she said briefly. "I'll call you if I have any questions or if I hear anything."

I nodded and thanked her profusely for her help. Luck was definitely on my side or I wouldn't have been blessed with this particular lawyer.

My case was to be decided in a week. One week. Then I would find out whether or not I would receive sole custody of Cassius.

Before, I was hesitant to even have primary custody. I felt that Thomas would change after his arrest for possession.

But after he caused a scene at my apartment, I knew he would never change. Well not in a good way. He just kept changing for the worse.

I picked up Cassius from Michael's place before heading home. Michael didn't know about what was going on with the custody issue. He didn't really care to ask and I didn't wanna bother him with my troubles.

Once I got home I put Cassius down for a nap and curled up on the couch with my phone.

I was so stressed lately, I just wanted to hear Zayn's voice.

The phone rang four times. No answer.

I sighed and pulled a thin blanket to cover myself. It was about 1pm but I'd woken up early for court so I was a bit tired.

I laid down and closed my eyes, my mind still racing. I'd become so stressed, I couldn't even stand it anymore.

It was hard to have a moment to just stop and think. Even as I laid down on the couch, I wanted to try to sort out what I was going to do about everything.. but I was just too tired. I wanted to just sleep without having so much anxiety built up.

I kept my eyes closed, tossing and turning on the couch.

I need a second job. Could I get my job at the hotel back? Probably... but what about Cassius? I can barely work the only job I have... I need a second job or I won't have enough for bills and food...

It was so scary to think about not having enough to make ends meet. The month was definitely going to be a rough one. I was working the closing shift Monday through Friday at Pinkberry for the time being. Jessie was nice enough to take care of Cassius on those nights. I felt so relieved when she offered, but after a few days I felt bad. I knew it was a temporary solution, and I would find a better arrangement soon.

I started to drift off into sleep when I heard my phone begin to ring.

Great.

"Hello?" My voice sounded tired.

"Hey," he said, his voice like silk. "You called?"

"Yeah," I said, immediately sitting up.

"What's up?" He sounded awfully cheerful.

"Not much," I said slowly. "I just wanted to hear your voice."

"Awww," he teased. "Miss me?"

"Of course!"
