Nothing but the truth

Holy shit.

Zayn's eyes were locked on mine; for a moment I thought I was hallucinating from stress and lack of sleep.

He approached me and reached down to pick up my keys for me. I took them from his hands and stayed where I was.

I tried to compose myself to avoid dropping Cassius who was still sleeping in my arms.

"Surprise?" Zayn said, smiling nervously.

My mind was completely blank, I could feel myself looking like a total idiot just standing there.

"What... what're you doing here?" I finally asked.

"I um.. I just came to visit," he looked at the ground.

I walked to the door, unlocking and opening it with one hand; Cassius was starting to feel heavier.

"Come in, you must be exhausted," I smiled, earning one in return.

Walking into my bedroom, I placed Cassius on the bed and shut the door slightly on my way out. I watched as Zayn set his luggage by the door and looked around the apartment.

"Hungry? Thirsty?" I asked.

"Not really," he answered.

I nodded and walked over to the couch to sit down; I was still in shock and tired from my lack of sleep.

"Make yourself at home," I said.

He sat beside me and I felt a little uncomfortable not knowing what to say.

"How long are you here for?" I asked, hoping it didn't come out rude.

"Dunno," he said quietly.

"How was the flight?" I changed the subject.

"It wasn't bad. I just wish I could travel like a normal person," he admitted.

"Oh fame is such a burden, you poor thing," I tease.

He laughs and it's music to my ears. I'm not awkward anymore now that we're talking, and I feel a little more energetic.

"Yeah, yeah. So how's work been?" He asks.

"Exhausting! I have to work tomorrow and Friday too," I frowned.

"Oh," he said, I couldn't quite read his tone.

"Yeah, but I mean, now that you're here I can try and get out of it?" I asked but it sounded like a statement.

"I don't want to interrupt your life or anything.. I just... I just wanted to see you I guess," he said, still avoiding my eyes.

"Oh..." I wasn't sure how to respond.

"Was it weird that I came here? I'm sorry," he shook his head.

"No. I'm just a little surprised. There's a lot I have to say but I'm just kinda blank," I confessed. "How did you even find out where I was?"

"Well, it wasn't easy. I had to try to find that Pinkberry and then convince the girl to let me know where I could find you," he laughed.

"She probably thought you were a stalker. The people at work aren't exactly directioners," I giggled.

"Yeah," he chortled. "I'm pretty sure she only told me because she was annoyed."

"I'm surprised you don't have a whole entourage with you."

"It was quite a mission to make it to the states and then here to your place," he told me. "I've got someone keeping an eye on me but he's keeping his distance for now."
