The chill that worked it's way down my spine froze mid apple bite. I sat there for a good second before taking the bite out of the apple in the most awkward way possible, the sharp sound cutting through the stiff silence. Once I had swallowed the apple piece I turned to see the man whose shirt I soaked in champagne, his dark brow furrowed and deep hazel eyes piercing right through me. "I-uh...I was hungry" was the lame excuse that tumbled out of my mouth.
"You know we aren't supposed to eat until after the run, right?" His voice takes on a slightly darker tone as he takes a step toward me, my adrenaline increases, anticipating hostility from him. "I mean-" he says as he swipes the apple from my hand and swiftly takes a bite out of it near where I had "don't all females know the ins and outs of the Mating Ceremony, dreaming of it from a young age and all?" His actions catch me off guard, the sensuality in his eyes as he took the bite sending tingles through out my body, but his comment wipes all of that away, bringing up some confidence.
"First off" I begin, taking a taunting step towards him "I was extremely hungry, and as a grown ass woman I believe I can eat when ever I feel like it." I then swipe my apple back from him, taking an equally tantalizing bite from it and swallowing before continuing. "Second, you must have me confused with someone who has a chance at being chosen." Taking one last bite before plopping the un bitten side of the apple back into his hand, I continue glaring straight into his amused, gorgeous eyes as I say "And lastly, it was cute how you tried to intimidate and categorize me, but that would only work if you scared me-" I lean in and up a bit, to get into his face, whispering lightly yet tauntingly at the small smirk on his lips "and you don't." With that I lean back down and stride out of the kitchen, satisfied with my reply. As I cross the threshold of the door, my ears pick up a small sound and once the door closes behind me I freeze, replaying it in my head.
"I will."
It takes a few seconds of staring at the dark mahogany dining chairs to get my legs moving again. Had I over done it? Said too much? Disrespected the wrong guy? He does seem the sort to be able to make me regret anything I said. And I'm sure I'll be eating my words later. I snap out of my trance as I bump into a solid form, my eyes reach up to find none other than Alex. "Hey."
"Hey Jas, where you been? The run's going to start soon." Alex gives my lacy dress and wedges a glance and I am suddenly very aware of his basketball shorts and loose tank top.
"Already?" I rub my hands together nervously as I think "Would you wait for me? I don't want to walk out there alone." I give Alex one of my sweet smiles that he can never say no to.
A small chuckle resonates through him, tossing his now completely messy hair around. "Yeah sure, I can wait outside your room and escort you if you want." I nod at his suggestion and take his had in mine, practically dragging his hulking form behind me as we ascend the marble stairs to the second floor and to the door to my room. "Ah, your room is on the second floor, lucky!" Alex exclaims "You're so close to the kitchen!" the mention of the kitchen bring goosebumps across my skin and I shake my head at Alex's obliviousness.
"Yeah I guess, now wait here!" I order, turning to open the door and enter, before shutting it though I peek out at my friend and point to him "Stay." I say as if I'm commanding a dog to preform a trick he replies with a little salute and nods. Satisfied with his response I shut the door and quickly strip down, careful to keep my dress from tearing then rush to pull on my loose plain black T-shirt and running shorts I picked up yesterday. Since I don't participate in very many pack runs, I don't own very many disposable clothing items, I wouldn't really have picked these out myself, but they'll do for tonight. I exit the room and find Alex sitting against the wall, his face lights up when he sees me.
