I shook the thought away, I must have been so annoyed that I forgot to lock it. Its fine. "C'mon Jas, Omletteesssss." Audri called in a sing song voice from the bottom of the staircase. My thoughts suddenly clicked back to the decadent breakfast food and all thoughts of locked and unlocked doors soon faded away as I raced down the stairs to meet her. A few people were hanging around the entrance to the dining room, sitting on fancy autumns or leaning against walls chatting and flirting away, the scent of omeletly goodness wafted through the arch and into the entry way, sending me into a zombified scent following trance as Audri pulled me into the dining room and down into the seat between her and Alex.
"Someone looks happy to be here." Alex joked, elbowing me in the side rather roughly. My trance was broken by his roughness and I finally saw the breakfast food on my plate and took a bite, utter delight filling my every pore.
"Yeah, watch out, she might just drool on you during her food-gasm." Audri pipes in.
"Umffug Ifs swoo gwud." I groaned through a mouthful of omelet, swallowing the large bite and internalizing my happiness I turn to Alex, realizing this is the first time I've seen him since the run, and even then I hadn't spoken with him about much. "Hey Alex! How was your opening ceremony, meet any cute girls I'd approve of?"
He chuckled a bit "I mean yeah, they're all pretty cute, but most of them have their eyes set on someone else." he sighs fully "Its a lot harder than you'd think to attract a mate."
"No kidding?" I said sarcastically shoving more eggy deliciousness down my gullet.
"No really," the sincerity in his voice just about kills me. "I mean every girl around my rank is just looking upward, hoping to be picked by the Alpha's son." at the mention of the guy I stop my mindless munching.
"The one taking over at the end of the year?"
"Yeah, every girl over the rank of 7 thinks they're good enough to "get" the soon to be Alpha." he shakes his head slightly "these bitches ain't loyal I tell you." My eyes widen and I smack his arm as hard as I can "Ow." he yelps, rubbing the open skin I slapped on his arm.
"You know how she wolves feel about being called that, it's a very old word and it's not okay for you to use!" I whisper yell at my friend.
"But you say it all the time!" he wines.
"Yeah cuz we're the bitches, and bitches stick together" Audri leans into our conversation "Right bitch?" she asks, holding her fist out for me.
"Right." I say bumping fists with her, after which she slowly leans out of the conversation, glaring at her brother.
"What ever." He sighs, crossing his arms like a child.
"C'mon there must be at least one bi-" I cough slightly "girl who you liked and actually gave you the time of day."
"Well," he says, rubbing the back of his neck "there is this one girl."
"OOOH! Tell me about her!" I say bouncing up and down in my seat.
"Well, she's smart."
"Mhmm."
"And strong."
"Mmmmhmmm."
"And she's got the prettiest eyes ever." Alex's eyes glaze over a bit as he describes this girl.
"And?"
"And she seemed pretty interested in me back, she laughed at all my jokes, even the stupid ones she really shouldn't have laughed at." He sighs happily, leaning back in his chair.
