Midnight. •Rouge Pup•
I ran through the woods. I was lost. I had already had to backtrack around 10 times. The scent of these woods didn't smell the the same as where my home was. I sniffed the air once again and smelled the familiar scent of rotting meat. The scent may be disturbing to some wolves but it reminded me of home. I followed the scent through a patch of ferns and poked my head out on the other side, but what I saw didn't amuse me. I only saw the rotting carcass of a deer. At that same moment my stomach decided to growl. I sniffed out the freshest part in the carcass and started to chew when I heard a rustle in the leaves to my right.
"Who's there?" I snarled, trying to keep the fear out of my voice. All I got in reply was a grunting sound. I carefully slunk my way I've to the ferns and glanced behind them. At first I didn't see anything strange but, as my eyes adjusted to the darkness, there huddled in a corner on a clearing was a grizzly.
I snarled, and he turned his head. When he saw me his eyes flashed with... what? anger? The grizzly lumbered onto all fours then he stood on two feet and let out a huge roar. I shrunk back and stared up at him, frozen in shock. As he lumbered on his two feet he jumped back down back on all fours and gave chase.
I was out of there faster than hummingbirds heartbeat. I didn't know where I was going, but I kept running. I zigzagged In between l and jumping over logs but the grizzly was persistent. After I had covered about a mile, my legs started to give out and I stumbled. The bear was gaining on me. "This is it." I thought to myself. I stumbled again and waited for the bears jaws to close around my neck.
All of the sudden the ground fell out beneath me, and the bear thundered over me. I tumbled down into a dark hole and laid there stunned. All of the sudden I heard a hissing sound from the corner of the hole. There was a mother fox standing over 5 fox kits. She lunged at me and I dodged her, but I had intention of hurting her or her kits. I looked for a way to get out of the den by she tackled me and pinned my den. "GET THE HECK OUT OF MY DEN!" she snarled. I whimpered and put my tail between my legs. She tried to rip my throat out but I rolled out from under her just in time. "I'm not trying to hurt you!" I growled. She went to stand in front of her kits again. "Then get out!" She snarled. I whimpered and with my head low, I slunk out of her den.
