Fade •Alpha of NightPacks Pup•
"Fade!"
I opened my eyes to see a silver wolf staring down at me. I snarled but sniffed the air and she smelt like my pack. "Mom!" I yipped.
"Shhh......." She mumbled. " I'll get you out of here." I sat quietly as she started to gnaw the spider webs locking my cage. As the last strings of spiderwebbing fell away she slowly opened the door. I wanted to jump onto her muzzle and shout at how glad I was, but I remained quiet. As we slowly made out way out of camp, me blending in with the darkness, and my Mother blending in with the snow, we heard a voice.
"Rusty could you go and check on that pup?" Yawned the big grey wolf from inside his den. We both stopped in our tracks.
"Hurry, Fade. They'll discover that your gone." She ushered me out of the rouges camp and deeper into the woods.
"What on Earth?!" We heard the red she-wolf called Rusty snarl.
"What's wrong?" Asked the grey wolf, suddenly standing beside her.
"The pups gone!" She snarled again and looked around into the darkness. "They weren't here long ago.." She growled. As we watched, crouched in the snow, we saw Rusty put her nose to the ground and start coming our way.
"We must go now!" Hissed Silver. She scooped me up Into her mouth as we sprinted back to camp. About halfway there, we heard a snarl behind us. Silver glanced over her shoulder and saw Rusty, and the light grey wolf chasing after us.
"We can't lead them to camp..." Silver thought out loud. She veered to the left, and ran out of the forest into an abandoned farmers field. She kept running, not stopping once, even though I could tell that my weight was hurting her. She stumbled once but kept running even as I felt her pulse racing. We came upon a frozen lake in the field and tried to stop, but skidded out onto the middle of it.
She slipped and fell onto her side, and I tumbled out of her mouth, and slid five feet away from her. Neither of us moved. "Fade." She said calmly, trying to keep the panic out of her voice. "Don't move."
All of the sudden I heard a loud cracking sound. I looked at my Mother, and saw thin, spiderwebbing cracks spread out from where she stood. The next few seconds seemed frozen in time. The ice cracks got bigger, and bigger until my Mother was falling into a hole in the ice! She struggled to sink her claws into the thick ice but it was no use towards her.
I didn't know what to do! All of the sudden I heard voices off of the shore. "What happened!?" Snarled the red wolf to the grey one.
"They fell into the ice!" Yipped the grey one excitedly.
"Well it looks like our work here is done then." Laughed Rusty. "And we didn't even have to do anything!"
"Lets head back to camp then." Suggested the grey wolf, as they started to walk back in the direction of their camp. When they had gone, I curled myself out from the little ball I was in and ran over to Silver.
"MOM!" I screamed. I walked over to the edge of the ice hole but she snarled at me.
"Fade! Get away from that ice! It could break and then you'd fall in to!" I backed away from the hole shivering from the wind whipping across the frozen lake.
"What can I do to help!!?" I shouted so she could hear over the wind.
"Go and get your father and tell him to come quick!" She snarled, and I could already see the cold lapping away her strength.
"I love you." I murmured, and sprinted in the direction of my home, as fast as my legs would carry me, but I just hoped it was quick enough.
