Chapter 13: Found
Parker
It felt like I died.
I don't remember how I got in this position, but right now I'm lying across a bench in the middle of the park, with a distant lamp as my only light.
I could feel myself bruising as I moved, wincing at the pain as I moved. I slid my feet to the ground, and I sat up, but my head starting spinning in circles, my vision blurring.
Was I drunk?
I didn't have a hangover, yet, but that high feeling of not being 100% there was still running through my system.
I moved my hands against the cool metal leaving them there as I tried to produce a coherent thought.
I pushed myself up off the bench, but stumbled on my feet, unsteady.
Definitely drunk.
I found myself shuffling down the path toward the lamppost, only looking at the light.
I could hear the wind rustling in the trees around me, and felt the fallen leaves scraping at my feet. There was a chill in the air that wasn't typically around this early in the season, so I guess it had to be at least midnight.
How did I get here?
I knocked my head against the post I was leaning against, and in a haze I felt myself fall to the ground, feeling my head vibrate in pain.
Was this real?
I think I was dreaming. I couldn't see clearly and my head pulsed with pressure. I touched my arms, they were still there.
I'm so confused.
I rested my back on the post, enveloping in the cold. I needed it right now.
I shifted and felt myself sitting on a hard object. I moved my hand to take it in my palm, and noticed it was my phone.
I realized I needed to call someone. I needed to get out of here. My fingers fumbled on the keyboard. I had no idea what number I pressed but as I heard the familiar dial tone I felt proud.
I could work my phone.
I felt the shuffling of someone answering and then silence.
"What time is it?" My voice was slurred and hoarse.
There was a pause then a mumbled, "2:38."
Wow. "Thank you."
"Couldn't you have checked that by yourself?" It was definitely a girls voice.
"I can't really see very well." I started laughing.
Why was I laughing?
"Where are you Parker?"
"I don't know."
I heard her laugh. "You're not being very helpful Parker."
"I'm next to a pole sitting on some grass. I think I'm in a park."
I heard more shuffling, and then a thud. "Are you okay?"
She answered. "Perfect. I'm going to find you Parker."
I laughed. "How can you find me if I don't know where I am?"
"Someone's got to find you. I guess today, that person's me."
I smiled to myself. "Lucky you."
She started whispering. "I know."
I joined her. "Why are we whispering?"
