I DON'T KNOW WHY, BUT I WISH I DID. MAYBE THAT WOULD MAKE THE PAIN GO AWAY.When Finn woke up, he almost wished he died. His hand searched for hers but found nothing. In fact, he couldn't even find her.
Finn sat up and sighed. He laid his hand on the ruffled spot where Millie had slept. It was cold. She had been gone for a long time.
Had she even stayed the night? Or did she leave once she had a full stomach and warm clothes? Was she only nice to get what she wanted?
Finn walked downstairs, shivering. It was cold despite it being early September. It was Saturday thankfully, which meant there was no school. Finn grimaced and threw the card into the trash, leaning against the counter.
Where did she go?
A knock at the door made him raise his head. He walked to it and opened it, letting in a worried Sadie.
"Sadie?"
"Finn, shush, um, okay, hold up. Noah is going to be here in an hour. We're having an intervention," she whispered and closed the door. Her fingers quickly tried to lock it shut.
"Are you okay?" Sadie didn't reply, her attention focused on the lock. Her finger slipped, and Finn grabbed her arm. "Are you okay, Carrot?"
"Carrot?"
"Carrot, you okay?" Finn asked again.
"It's Millie. Is- is she still here?"
"No."
"Where did she go?"
"I don't know," Finn whispered.
"Oh," Sadie quietly said and turned back to the lock, managing to lock it correctly.
"Um, so intervention?"
"Intervention."
"On the drugs."
"On drugs," Sadie confirmed.
"Anything else?"
"Nope," she uneasily replied.
"Sadie-"
"Nothing," Sadie snapped. "I'm not an open book. I can have my own secrets."
"Alright then, Carrot."
"I like that- keep calling me that," Sadie stonily said.
"Are you okay? It's me. It's just me. You can talk to me."
"Fine, okay, so, I talked to someone last summer, when Millie went missing. I told them a lot of stuff," Sadie breathed out, sitting down on the couch. Finn walked into the kitchen and started a pot of coffee.
"Did you tell them about Millie?"
"Of course I did. I ranted to them," she miserably said. "And then, she went silent. We normally talked every Friday night, but they weren't on. They never missed a week."
"She?"
"Her name is Nellie. She lives in California."
