Peter's POV

"Welcome to the Carter's annual New Years celebrations, if you will please allow me to escort you two gentleman to the ballroom where the party is being held," a young girl probably in her early twenties, greeted us and asked us if she could take us to the party.

I was shocked that she didn't attempt to flirt with me because normally, girls throw themselves at me. I immediately gained more respect for the Carter family as they acquire their servants to be proper and not aloof and rude.

"Umm... sure, by the way, what is your name?" Blaise replied.

Oh Blaise, you really think she's gonna give you her name...

"Um.. it is not permitted for me to give you my name sir, but if you need anything, ask anyone in a black and bronze uniform, now, the ballroom is right through here, I will be leaving you both, as I need to go and take care of a few things," she replied.

Told you

And with that she left us, I was so interested in what Blaise was trying to say to her that I didn't have a chance to look at the interior of this place, and by looking at it now, it just exudes elegance and power, the whole interior is gold and white with accents of bronze, it was amazing...

When we entered the ball room, the first thing I noticed was the subtle scent of jasmine but I was pulled out of the little daydream I had gotten myself into when I spotted mother and father with Blair and an elegantly dressed lady and man talking to them. As I made my way to them I was stopped by a few businessmen that I was well acquainted with.

"Peter Argent! Long time no see." Spoke one of the businessman, Francois Ricardo.

"Francois! I know, it has been long." I replied. "Anyway, I have to go, parents are waiting for me."

"Sure man, see you later." He said.

As I left, I spotted hot girls that I would normally flirt with but now, they didn't even have an affect on me.

Weird...

As I made my way to my family, there was a nagging at the back of my mind, like I had seen someone I knew, but where? And whom?

That was when I turned around and saw her. Her black hair shining in the light and her blue eyes sparkling like millions of stars. She was wearing a beautiful silver dress and was the most captivating woman here; men were falling at her feet but she took no notice.
She walked with a certain elegance around her, the people around her couldn't help but be mesmerized by the beautiful woman walking past them.
She stopped walking to greet a dark haired guy by hugging and kissing him on the cheek. I suddenly felt something like jealousy forming in the depths of my stomach, but why?
As the time passed, I mingled with some associates of mine and would occasionally glance at the beautiful black haired woman in the stunning dress, until Blaise came to interrupt my pleasant conversation with an heiress of a foreign company.

"I see you looking at her you know, it's kind of obvious Pete." He said.

"What? You don't even know what you're talking about. Who exactly have I been looking at?" I replied.

"Well that girl with the... oh never mind, I came here to tell you that dad is requesting your most gracious presence to meet the host of this party." Blaise said, ever so sarcastically.

I rolled my eyes and walked with Blaise to Blair and our parents who were talking to a youthful looking couple, who were apparently the hosts of the party and the owners of this exquisite mansion. When I got to the little group they had made, my father began talking.

"Ah, now that all out children are here Mr Carter I would like to introduce you to our oldest, Peter, who has his own companies; and our twins, Blaise and Blair, who are still in school," Father said, then turned to us. "Children, this is Robert Carter and his wife, Victoria Carter."

"It is a pleasure to meet you." I said, while shaking hands with Mr Carter and his wife, after which Blaise and Blair did the same.

"Likewise! I have heard many things about you Peter Argent." He replied.

"All good I hope." I said, whilst grinning.

"Oh of course!" He exclaimed with a chuckle.

"Dear, why don't we call our children here to introduce them?" Said Mrs Carter.

Mr Carter gave a nod to his wife and stopped a nearby servant and requested he call his children. The server scurried away frantically whilst looking in all directions, presumably to locate the children of the Carter family.

As we waited for the rest of the Carter family to arrive, we made small talk with Mr and Mrs Carter.

"So I've heard that Alexander is getting quite famous in the architectural industry." I said as i spoke to Mr Carter.

"Oh yes, Victoria and i are very proud of him, he worked very hard for what he has achieved." Mr Carter said.

"That's brilliant. Might i ask, who's taking over your companies if Alexander is busy with his business?" I asked.

"Ah, my daughter Dae will be taking over the business when she is ready. I know that you have your own successful chain of companies which is very impressive but might i also ask who is taking over your father's companies when he and your mother decide to travel the world instead." He asked with a hearty chuckle.

"Well Blaise, my younger brother, is set to take over dad's companies and Blair wants to be independent and start her own company." I replied with a smirk.

"Oh, speaking of children, here are mine!" Mr Carter exclaimed with a grin.

I turned around and came face to face with who i presumed to be Alexander Carter, famed  architect and the oldest child of the Carter family.

"Alexander Carter, I'm Peter Argent. It's a pleasure to meet your acquaintance." I said and offered him my hand.

He just looked at me and shook my hand rather firmly. I passed it off as having greeted so many people that he had gotten tired of it but i could tell that he felt intimidated by me. Maybe because i was higher up in the corporate world or something, i don't know, but all I know is that he doesn't like me and I don't like him very much either. He went to greet the twins and my parents and the youngest came and greeted me.

"Hey, I'm Kyle, it's good to meet you. So you're the Peter Argent hey, I've heard some pretty amazing things about you. How you skyrocketed to the top of the corporate world and how you built your empire from the ground and now it's one of the most successful businesses in the world. It's actually an honor to meet you." He gushed almost.

I chuckled and spoke, "it's a pleasure to meet you too Kyle Carter. I see you know who i am and i hope that one day, I can say the same about you."

He smiled and also went to greet my parents, Blaise and Blair. He seemed like a good kid with a smart head on his shoulders... and by the looks of it, he seemed to be smitten with Blair already.
I turned around to greet who could only be the only girl of the Carter family. Dae Carter.

It's her.
