Chapter 18

-Harry

"Happy Birthday to you!" Dad and Louis clap after I blow out my candles. Dad brings over a big box with my name written on it.

"Okay, Harry. I know this gift isn't much but it's just for you!" I have at it and tear open the box to see a huge flood books. I squeal then run over to Dad and hug him really tight.

"It's just what I wanted!" I go back over to the box and it has all different types of authors and genres.

"This will keep me occupied for months! This is great! Thank you, thank you, thank you!" I smile back at Dad and Louis as they return the same grin.

"You're welcome, Haz." Dad leans down and kisses my cheek.

"I'm gonna start these books now!" I rush upstairs and shut my door. I'm gonna read every single one of these books even if it kills me.

-Liam

Louis offers to clean up while I put a sleeping Niall in his crib, I agree and head upstairs. I put him in his crib and kiss his cheek.

"Goodnight, baby." I quietly walk out and head back downstairs. Louis is doing the dishes with tears down his cheeks, singing a song.

"Say something I'm giving up on you. I'll be the one if you want me to. Anywhere I would have followed you......." He starts to look down and starts to cry again.

"What's wrong?" Louis turns around but continues to cry.

"This song. It just makes me think of Mum."

Then it struck me.

"Just one more push Ali! You've got it in you!" She groans in pain and squeezes my hand even harder. After about 10 minutes of coaching her through this birth, we hear a sudden cry. I look down and see a small baby.

"It's a boy!" The doctor calls out and I glance over to Alice, who's closing her eyes but fighting to keep them open.

"What should we name him?" She looks up and smiles at our baby that the doctor just handed her.

"Niall."

"Niall James." She breathes out and cuddles our little Niall James.

"I'm just so tired." She gives me a soft smile then closes her eyes.

"Alice?" Her monitor makes a long beeping noise so I quickly grab Niall but the doctors tell me to leave.

"I can't leave my wife! I promised I'd be with her through the entire birth." They continue to shoo me away until I'm left while in the hallway, pacing with a newborn in my arms.

"Dad!" I look over and see Louis walking over with Harry in his arms. I walk over and show Niall off to Louis. He coos and looks around.

"Where's Mum?" Before I could answer, the doctor comes out of her room and looks at me.

"Mr. Payne?" I nod and he pulls me over to the corner where Louis and Harry can't hear.

"Is Alice going to be alright?" The doctor looks at me sternly then shakes his head.

"I'm so sorry but we couldn't save her in time." I can already feel my heart shattering like broken glass. I look down at Niall and think about the future and how he's gonna grow up with a Mum. I just lost my love and the only person that could keep the house together as family. I walk back over to Louis and Harry.

"Dad? Is she gonna be okay?" I shake my head and look at Louis.

"Th-th-they couldn't save her in time." Louis looks upset but he's hiding it. Harry has already broke down, sobbing on the floor.

God give me strength.

"It's okay, Louis. She's in a better place now."

"I know.  I just miss her." Louis wipes his eyes with a smile.

"I just kept thinking back to all the times we shared."

-Zayn

I walk over the Payne's household gripping Harry's present in my hand.

"I heard it was someone's birthday." I slowly stop talking when I see Louis and his father on the sobbing into each other's shoulder.

"What's going on here?" Louis looks up from Liam and rushes over to me.

"You made it."

"Yeah but what's with the tear festival?"

"We just caught the feels."

"The what?"

"We were sharing memories of the time we spent with my Mum."

"Oh. What did happen to your Mum? If I may ask."

"No, No. You're fine. She died when Niall was born. They said it was complications with childbirth." Louis wipes his eyes with his sleeve.

"I'm so sorry."

"It's okay. We were just talking about our memories with her then you came."

"Well, as one said, beautiful memories last a lifetime."

"Babe, that's deep." Louis reaches out and hugs me.

"Don't know about that but I get by with a little help from my friends." Louis pulls back away from and gives me a confused look.

"Oh, my God. You're too much." He smiles and leans in to kiss me. Our lips meet causing me to smile.

"Get some, Louis!" I smirk in the kiss then pull away to put my hands on his waist while his hands find a way to neck.

"Happy two month-iversary ."

"I thought we weren't going to be that type of couple."

"Well, I want to be."

"Really?"

"Yeah. Like you said, everyday is a milestone."
