Chapter 3

Shailene's POV

I guess I had fallen asleep at some point within our long car ride because suddenly I am nudged awake and I lift my head now to glimpse my co-star's steady gaze upon me.

"Shai? You awake?" His voice is low and rather quiet and a look of regret somehow held his eyes tightly.

Did it pain him simply to wake me up?

I blink the sleep from my eyes and sit up, the dark car making me want to simply go back to sleep. "Theo? Are we here?" I yawn and straighten myself to look out the window. But the windows were too tinted to see out of.

"Yes, we're here. We just pulled into the Ha-... well, the resort's parking lot." He mutters and I can't help but smile at the fact that he couldn't pronounce our resort's name properly.

"It's called Hapuna, Theo." I muse and he just grins. "Yeah, that."

Suddenly though, the door I was leaning on opens from the outside and instantly I start to fall forward, the seatbelt not holding me back enough. I gasp when I then feel a hand wrap around my shoulder quickly and my jaw drops in astonishment as I am half in my seat and half out. I had almost fallen out of the car but Theo had just barely caught me.

He pulls me back into my seat and I turn to him as the door now fully opens all the way, revealing a bewildered looking Jeremy.

"Is everything okay with you two?" He asks as I turn to look at Theo now, my face rather hot with embarrassment. He was practically holding me now, and it probably wasn't too good to be seen with him like this.

Clumsy me...

"Nah, we're okay. Aren't we Shai?" Is all Theo answers though and I exhale casually before blinking back at him. "T-Thank you," I smile gratefully. "I wasn't paying any attention to the doors." I splutter with a chuckle and he just laughs at me, his hand still noticeably around me.

"That's why you've got me, Shai. What are co-stars for?" He muses practically and I smile as I then unbuckle my rather unhelpful seatbelt from around me before Jeremy then helps me from the car.

"You two seemed to be having.. a mighty good time in there, miss." The blonde man now murmurs rather unsure of himself and I just shrug. "I-I was being clumsy is all. Nothing more." I repeat to him firmly and with this he finally just nods and heads around to the trunk of the SUV.

Theo then steps out of the car, his eyes gleaming and his hair looking slightly disheveled from leaning back against his head rest so much.

"Well, here we are. Looks rather wicked than from what I had first imagined it as." Theo roils comically as I finally turn to get a look at the place.

My eyes widen and excitement sparks me like electricity would.

The resort was huge. It towered high into the dark sky with burning torches lining the front entrance to the resort. The red-orange flames made the place look astoundingly beautiful and lovely multi-colored plants of all sorts were shrouding walkways and paths everywhere. It looked like we were practically standing within a jungle within an actual Hawaiian tribe.

Oh my gosh!

"It's so amazing!" I squeal. "Dude, this is like so rad!"

Theo just turns and wraps an arm around me, so naturally, and so swiftly. It somehow makes me feel warm inside and I am stricken at how much tension I feel suddenly with my best friend.

"This place totally reminds me of royalty for sure." Theo then comments into my ear and it is then that I hear Jeremy, our driver's voice, from behind us.
