Daniel's P.O.V.
His sister? What was she doing here? Princess Nicole has been away for years, she was engaged at age 6 to Lord Remy of the Golden Isles, they married when she turned 18. She moved to the Golden Isles when she was 14, so why is she back now?
"Nicole, such a nice suprise, it has been years. But why have you come now?" Prince Joey asks as he stands up to greet her. I must say she is quite the vision, pale skin, rosy cheeks, bright eyes and dark pink lips, a small golden tiara and blonde curls falling like the waves of the ocean down her shoulders, and a beautiful royal blue gown with diamonds embroidered on the front. She was everything a princess should look like, in the same way as her brother was everything a prince should look like. Their shared beauty was quite astonoshing, it almost seemed unreal, him like an angel of heaven and her like a forest nymph.
"Well firstly it is not seen well upon if the Princess misses her own brother's coronation. But secondly I have urgent matters to discuss with you, in private." She says almost whispering her second sentence. Joey and Nicole share a look and he nods as if understanding the issue right away. I stand there confused by their interaction.
"Of course, my coronation, how could I possibly be so daft?" Joey jokes. He waves me to them.
"What can I do for you, Your Majesty." I ask putting on my "official steward"-act again.
"Daniel, me and my sister need a word in private and I would like to have some refreshments as I am sure my sister has had a long journey. Could you meet us in the stable when you have everything ready?" He asks, sending me a look that tells me that there are things he cannot discuss in public but also that there is a lot more then a reunion going on.
"Of course, sire. I shall have it ready in just a minute." I answer him with a short bow. I go to gather some refreshments as Joey takes his sister's hand and leads her to the stables. Once I have everything ready I pick up my tray an walk quickly to our agreed meeting place.
"Daniel, just put that down anywhere, as you might have expected that is not why you are here." Joey says as I enter the stables. I put down my tray and smile akwardly at him and then princess Nicole.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Daniel." Nicole says reaching out her hand. I take her hand and bow deeply before planting a soft kiss on her hand, embarresed that I forgot my manners for a while.
"No, the pleasure is all mine, Your Royal Highness." I answer.
"None of that, you do not have to bow for me or call me by title, not while we are alone." She says with a warm smile. She truely is her brother's sister.
"So what is going on? Not to seem rude, but I really do not understand why I am here." I say trying not to seem disrespectful.
"Because this concerns both of us, someone is spreading rumors about you and me, and most of all that their Prince is laying with men, breaking the laws and sinning in the eyes of the gods." Joey says with a frown upon his face. I stare at him in pure shock, how could this have happened? Who knew? No one...right?
"But, how? How do they know? Do they know it is me? Who says this? I, I do not understand.." I say, struggeling to make cohorent sentences.
"I do not know how anyone found out, and no you are never mentioned by name, but it is said that it is a servant that Joey has a new found affection for. So for anyone who has seen you together, it is not hard to guess. I was told by one of my friends at court who says the nobels have started to hear about it. If enough nobels learn this truth then Joey's rule is lost, the nobels will rise against him and appoint another ruler. I do not wish to cause any of you distress, but this fling or relationship or whatever it is, it has to stop. We cannot add any more fuel to this fire, so it has to end now, and Joey must find a suitable choice for wife by his coronation. If Joey is not engaged by his coronation, I fear there shall be no coronation at all. I say this with love in my heart for the both of you; give it up now, stop it before it is too late." Nicole says.
I can feel my heart breaking, shattering into a million little pieces. I knew this would happen, I knew he could never choose me, I was a fool to even wish it for a second.
People like me cannot afford love.
We are nothing.
And in this moment even he has proved it to me, as Joey stands there not daring to look at me, he has proved to me that this was nothing more that a simple fling to him. He has proved that he will not fight for me, or for us, for he does not believe that I am something to fight for.
I am nothing.
"I will keep my distance- Goodbye." I say as tears fall from my eyes and I run out the door. I hear Joey's voice calling for me to come back, but there is no point.
The fairytale is over.
We will never get our happy ending.
A/N: Another chapter up, this kind of sucked to write, but not all chapters can be fun. Hope you are still enjoying the story, let me know in the comments! Love you all <3
