Chapter 23: Save Me, Save You

Joey's P.O.V.

When we arrive back at the palace I run back to my chambers immediately, ignoring Sawyer's calls for me. I need to find out what the note says and why that girl was so scared to tell me.
When I enter, William, my personal steward. The same one I originally fired, but after Daniel, I needed a new steward. As I did not wish to speak to anyone, having someone who perfectly followed every command seemed less aggravating then previously.
"Welcome back, Your Majesty." He says, bowing.
"Leave me." I relly strictly.
Luckily, him being him, he does so straight away.

I open the note and read it carefully.

My dearest Joey.
Firstly, know that I am alive.
I was kidnapped from the dungeons by Lord Greenwale and since then he has abused me and used me for his pleasure. I thought you sent him to save me at first, but once I arrived here I quickly realized that was not the case.
Please, save me.
I feel I may not last much longer.
Please, my love, please save me.
I pray you are safe and that they have not hurt you too much.
I hear you speaking with him downstairs, and I want to run into your arms but I am not sure if it is safe.
So please come back for me.
Please Joey.

I love you, and I always will.

Daniel. Daniel is alive? He is alive? How is he alive? Could it truly be?

Lord Greenwale's mansion, I had to get back there. As quickly as possible, if this was true, Daniel would be in grave danger. I will save you, Daniel.
But first I need to confirm the letter's claim. I need to know if Daniel truly escaped from the dungeons.

I storm out of my room to find Sawyer. He would know, he had to know. I see him talking to one of the guards.
"Your Majesty." The guard greets, bowing to me.
"You may stand, excuse me, but I need Lord Hartman straight away." I say. The guard stands back up and nods.
I pull Sawyer with me by his arm and practically throw him into my private chambers.

"Wait Joey, what is going on?!" He yells confused. I hold up the letter.
"Did you know?" I ask in a stern voice.
"Know what?" He says grabbing the latter from my hand.
"Did you know he was alive?!" I yell. Sawyer skims the words of the letter, a face of horror becoming him.
"Y-you didn't know? Is it a l-lie?" I ask quietly, tears forming in my eyes at the possiblity of all this being untrue.
"I did know.... Or I-I, we, we were not aware of him being held captive. We thought he escaped with a friend, and your head was so lost at that time, it felt like not telling you was best for everyone. But I swear Joey, I had no idea where he was or that he was in danger." Sawyer answers. I consider his words carefully, he does not appear to be lying which is a relief.
"Allright, I am disappointed in you, and starting now I demand you tell me everything. But I shall let it go if you assist me in saving him. We must move fast and get him to a safe house." I say.
"I will make the arrangments and gather the guards. You get some fresh clothes for him, and then go to the kitchen and get some food for him, he will probably be starving. I will make sure we get him out, Joey." Sawyer answers. I nod approvingly and he runs out. I grab some of Daniel's clothes from when he worked here, I had put them asside in their own chest which I kept in my room for safe keeping. I wanted something to remember him by, but there was not much, therefor I decided to keep them. I quickly run down to the kitchen, getting a bottle of fresh water, some baked goodies and a meat pie.

I meet up with Sawyer and the entire Royal Guard by the Royal Carriage.
"Princess Nicole wanted to know what was going on, but I did not disclose it. I simply stated that you had to go away last minute on official matter." Sawyer informs me.
"Thank you, I would not want that horrid fiancee of her to get involved. Did you arrange a safe place for him to stay?" I ask as we enter the carriage.
"Yes, I will take you both to the old summer palace on the eastern coast. No one has stayed there for a while, but I sent a couple housekeepers there. I am confident about them staying silent about anything that might happen there. It will probably be best for you to stay with him for a while." He says. I nod in agreement.
"Allright, we are ready, drive on!" Sawyer tells the driver.

I'm on my way Daniel.

I will save you.

A/N: Quick update, I will take my time writing the next chapter as I want it to be perfect. Also, does anyone know the song "Save Me, Save You" by WJSN? I really like that one, I'm usually not really into their songs, but that one stood out to me.
