Elarayne - What Am I?

Chapter 24

"It's time.", Orraikles says to us.

"I agree.", Fyrianne answers with a nod.

"We have been already staying too long in one place. It's not our task."

"Indeed. 636 years are a long time... ", Earthiean says.

"Then it's decided. We will head north in the new year of 71201. That will be in one week. Let's use that time to prepare.", Orraikles says and gives us a sign that we are allowed to go.

Everybody leaves the large room in the High Mountains. I leave with Arexlan. I point him to follow me to our room. He follows.

As we reach our room he closes the door.

"What's wrong?", he asks me.

"It's good that we continue our journey... But what about Mary?", I say.

We have been meeting Mary and learning about the humans. About how not every one of them is evil.

"We can't be with her forever... It's time to say goodbye."

"You're right..."

"Shall I come with you?", Arexlan asks.

"No... it's alright. I'll tell her."

"Ok. I'll wait for you here.", Arexlan says and kisses me.

At night, I head out into the woods where our shed is standing. The lights are burning inside the building.

I open the door and Mary eats her daily bread. She stops eating when she sees me.

"I'm so glad you're back!", she exclaims.

"Yes... Listen... I have to tell you something..."

"What is it?", she says while looking at me with her large green eyes.

"I will leave the humans realm. The dragons are moving on. I can't visit you anymore..."

"Oh...", Mary says and looks to the floor,"I will miss you..."

"I will miss you, too."

We sit for a while saying nothing until Mary starts saying something. But she doesn't say it as confident as she is.

"May... I see your... dragon form for one last time... It would mean much to me...", she says while looking down to the floor. She isn't looking into my eyes while talking. I wonder why that is.

"Sure... But it's almost dawn ... There is a chance of me getting seen."

"I know a place where no one can see you. Come, I'll lead you there!", Mary says and jumps up immediately.

I follow her without a word.

She leads me to a large cave just north of Javtaia. The entry is small but as we delve deeper into the cave the space gets bigger. It's big enough for me to be in my dragon form.
