I raised my head and glanced at him. He was still asleep, receiving oxygen into his mouth. Maybe it was a reaction from a dream or something, if he's even having one. "I just want you to be okay." I whispered, wiping the tears from my eyes.

For fifteen minutes, I sat by Patrick's side desperately waiting and watching for signs of him waking up. Nothing ever happened. I know it will take some time but I'm scared. I don't want to lose him again, and this time...for good.

After a couple minutes, my mom walked in. She handed me a bottle of water and sat down in a chair on the other side of the room. Her eyes wandered over to Patrick. "I tried to tell him that Anthony had a gun, but he was already down the stairs. He didn't hear me." My mom told. "I ran downstairs to warn him, but when I finally reached him it was too late."

I reached my hand out and rubbed his hair, brushing curls from his forehead. I watched his eyes, hoping they'd finally open. I sighed. "Diamond, give him some time. Maybe he'll wake up later, but let him rest for now."

Hours later my mom had gone home, but I stayed by Patrick's side. I didn't want to leave him alone. The thoughts my mind were accumulating were getting more and more hectic. What if I leave and he suddenly passes away? I tried to clear my mind, but I was too upset. If this is his last moment of life I want to be here to share it with him, even if he's not in the best state.

"I love you, Patrick." I whispered before my eyes slowly started to close.

10:04 AM

My eyes fluttered open from the light that shown through the curtains of the window. A nurse was changing the bandages that covered Patrick's gun shot wounds. She looked over and noticed me sitting up. "Good morning." She greeted with a smile.

"Good morning." I replied, stretching my body. After replacing the soiled bandages with fresh ones, she started to change Patrick's IV fluids. "How is he?" I questioned as I watched her work.

"His pulse is strengthening and the bleeding from his wounds has slowed down significantly. I say he will fully recover in a few weeks. But, for now he may not be able to walk without assistance. When he was shot, a bullet punctured the sciatic nerve in his upper leg, so there will be numbness and tingling in his legs. He will need a wheel chair, but as he recovers and gains more feeling in his legs he can use a walker." The nurse explained.

"Okay, will he need therapy for anything?"

"Not really, all he needs is for someone to help him around and care for him while he recovers. He'll be able to walk normally again after. "

I nodded my head as my eyes roamed over to Patrick. I just want us to be home where we belong. My phone began to ring in my pocket. "Excuse me."

"Mhm." The nurse hummed while I got up to exit into the hallway. I accepted the call and put the phone up to my ear.

"Hello?"

"Good morning, Diamond. The detectives are at the house, I'm on my way to get you now so be ready." My mom spoke through the phone.

I peered inside the door at Patrick. As much as I didn't want to leave him, I needed to go home. "Okay, I'm ready."

"Okay, see you when I get there."

"Okay, bye."

I ended the call and strolled back into the room. I put the chair back where it belonged and walked over to Patrick's side. "I love you." I whispered, leaning over to kiss his forehead. With that, I grabbed my jacket and left the room. I sauntered outside and waited out front for my mom to come. After a few minutes she pulled up in front of me. She unlocked the door and I got inside.
