Hi my name is Macy Rivers and I live bluefield West Virginia with my grandparents, I'm 18 years old and I'm the not so famous smarty pants at my high school, I may live close to a city but I'm all for that country life, I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather be than in the mountains. Anyway I was sitting on the roof of my grandparents house staring up at the stars, I had always loved watching the stars and wondering how far away they actually were, I guess that's what sparked my love of science, but what really set it off was when my dad came home and asked me to help him with an experiment.
My dad worked with the CSI and often came home doing tests, He had asked me to help uncover the culprit of a crime by looking at DNA samples he brought in. I studied the DNA with him for hours before I passed out and he carried me up to my bed, but I would have stayed up if I had known that was going to be my last night with him. The next day while he was out in the field he got shot and had been in a coma ever since, until he finally lost his battle with life. The funeral was the day after and I couldn't stop crying for weeks. You see my mom died in a car accident and my dad took care of me, needless to say I became a daddy's girl pretty fast and when he died I was heartbroken.
But anyways I've accepted that he's in a better place and moved on, as I stare at the stars I hear a certain smooth british accent calling from the ground "Macy can you get down? I don't want you to hurt yourself." I looked down and saw my best friend Dan Collins looking up at me. Dan was the only person that didn't pick on me for being overly smart, and as much as I deny it, he's not smart, at all.
"But I don't want to." I called down to him while scooting over to the edge of the building and letting my feet hang down.
"Please Macy." He said with a pleading voice, and at that I couldn't resist, I told him to come on in as I crawled back through my bedroom window, as I closed the window my door opened a little and I heard Dan's voice fill the room. "Can I come in?" he asked.
"Stop being a gentleman and get in here." I said jokingly, he walked over to me. "So are you ready?" I asked. he nodded, making me smile. "Good let's go." I grabbed a case and handed it to him, Picking up his backpack we headed out "Granny, Grampsy, we're going to the shed!" I called to my grandparents before running out of the house, Dan followed quickly with the case on his back.
After a bit of running and mountain climbing we stopped at the flat peak on the mountain my grandparents house was built on. We walked through some trees until we came to an old looking shed in a clearing, this was our secret spot, we found it when we were 5 and there was an easier way to the top of the mountain. Since then we've come up and worked on it to make it more homey, We now have Electricity, Beds, and even Plumbing. I walked in the old building and went to the couch, putting my backpack beside the couch as I watched Dan drop his stuff and flop on the couch, I giggled and sat on him.
"Nuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu." He whined and turned so he was belly up "Macy off." He said like I was going to listen, and I obviously didn't.
"No." I said simply.
"Macy off or I'll grab your butt." He said, that was motivation enough for me to get off since he's done it before when I wouldn't get off him.
"You're mean, you can't hog the couch and not expect me to sit on you." I said with a pouty face.
"I'll gladly let you on the couch but you can't sit on me." He said shifting and laying on his side with his back against the back of the couch.
I rolled my eyes and flopped on the couch in front of him. Grabbing the remote I turned on the flat screen TV in front of us, I switched it to hallmark channel since it was December and Christmas was coming, We laid there and watched the romantic Christmas movies play. After a bit I felt Dan shift and wrap his arm around me, I blushed and looked back at him to see he was asleep, I gulped and blushed more as he pulled me closer.
