Naeun looked up from the watch that was on her left wrist and looked around. She was standing in the middle of the soccer field, which was empty. The grass and the seats were wet due to the rain. It rained the wole morning but it stopped two hours before. The only thing left was its mark.
She had been waiting for almost ten minutes and felt disappointed because that meant he wasn't coming. She had made her decision, it was hard, but she wanted to follow her heart.
While she was rubbing her arms to bring hotness to them, someone ran up to her as if his life depended on it and stopped infront of her, breathing heavily. She smiled because he had come. But her body was soon filled with nervousness.
"I'm really sorry. The teacher wanted to discuss something about my next project. I ran as fast as I could," he told her and finally smiled.
"I was almost leaving. . ," she spoke slowly and lower, trying to smile but it came out more like a wince.
Sehun looked at her, expectant. She had asked him to meet up after class and it seemed like she had something serious to tell him. By the look on her face, and her hands movements against her belly, he noticed she was nervous.
"Eunji told me you went looking for me last night," she finally said not looking at him but at her hands.
"Yeah. And you were with Cheolwoo." He grimaced.
"Why did you get upset?"
"Why did you go out with him?"
"We went shopping," She looked at him, frowning, thinking he shouldn't be jealous because of that.
"You only go with him now. You forgot about us. Your true friends."
"I needed time away from you all. . . ." She sighed. "I needed to think."
"About what?"
She just looked at him without saying anything and felt her heart beat fast because of what she was about to do. She didn't know if it was the right thing to do but she needed to do it.
Sehun gulped when she placed her hand on his cheek and started approaching his face. What he was thinking was about to happen? Yes. She was going to kiss him! He closed his eyes right when she did it and a second later he felt the touch of her soft lips.
He kissed her back, doing what he had wanted to do since days ago.
But did this mean she was giving him another chance? Was she telling him that she wanted to get back with him?
They pulled apart not so long after and she looked at him with teary eyes, which worried him.
"What did you feel?" Was the first thing she said, feeling a knot on her throat.
"Wha-what?" He asked, confused.
"What did you feel? What did this kiss make you feel?"
He didn't know why was she asking that nor why it seemed like she wanted to cry. And when she asked him that he frowned, not because it was a weird question after such act of affection, but because when he thought about it. . , he hadn't felt anything special. He didn't feel anything. Just like the last time: he didn't feel anything when they kissed but it was this moment when he noticed.
Maybe the fact of her moving on with one of his close friends made him jealous just because she was forgetting about him. Her feelings were disappearing. . . . And that hurt somehow. He thought that if he hated that much that Chanyeol and her may have liked each other it was because he still loved her and wanted to be with her. But it wasn't that at all. He just didn't want her to forget about him, to replace him. . . . That selfish he could come to be.
"Answer!" She asked him, losing her patience.
".Nothing. . . ." He looked down to then look up and stare at the football net.
"Me either," she replied and a smile started showing on her face. He looked at her surprised. "I kissed you because I wanted to make sure if we felt something or not. . . ."
"Wa-wasn't it because you wanted to get back?"
"I can't do that." She looked at him with a sad smile. "In the only way I like you now is as a friend."
"And what if I had felt something?"
"I would have rejected you anyways." He couldn't help but chuckle. Yeah, that's how she was. She did what her heart told her to do.
"Rejecting me after kissing me. . . Wow, that hurts." He smiled at her.
"I want us to be close as before, be best friends. I don't want to lose you," she said as she grabbed his hands.
"Me either. I think I just misunderstood feelings. . . ."
She sighed as the atmosphere got silent. They didn't know what to say. It felt a little bit awkward as well. They had kissed and now they agreed to stay just as friends. But for some reason Sehun didn't mind. As long as he didn't lose her friendship. . . .
"So. . . ," Sehun broke the silent. "Are you going to. . . date Chanyeol?" He asked with difficulty.
Although he was okay with the fact that she didn't want to be with him as a couple, he wasn't okay with her to be with Chanyeol. Sehun had the rule of "not dating your friend's ex" very present and he felt like Chanyeol wasn't his true friend because he liked her. He felt betrayed by both of them. But if she really liked Chanyeol and he made her happy, he'd accept their relationship, if they were to start one.
"Yes. . . ." She looked down and smiled. Yes, she had chosen Chanyeol and she didn't know why did it take her so long and why was it so hard if she had been liking him for a long time. She liked him a lot and wanted to be with him.
"Good." He let out a sigh and tried to smile at her, but it was a fake smile.
"You're not happy. . . ."
"I'm happy as long as you're happy. If you're happier with him, go ahead." She smiled and felt thankful because he was supporting her. She hugged him and it took him five seconds to hug her back. He didn't think she would do that. . . . "Go with him," he said as he pulled apart showing a small smile. "He's waiting for you."
"Thank you," she said, happy, and kissed his cheek to run away after from the football court.
She had no idea where Chanyeol could be. The classes had finished half an hour ago and the campus was almost empty. But she had heard from Jongin that Chanyeol would stay with his friends after class or at the library studying.
She smiled big thinking he could be at the library and hurried there. Behind the main building was the library so when she passed by it and turned to her left, she stopped short after her eyes saw a scene that she had never imagined.
Something that she had never wished to happen was happening right infront of her eyes.
