Lightyears away

Ammolite's pov

I was surprised they let me stay out here so long then I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around and I was surprised to find it was Steven.

"Hey," I watched him sit next to me, "whats up Steven?"

"I heard you were back, why are you out here alone?" He seemed genuinely concerned for me.

"Just thinking, and sometimes the most happens when you're alone." I said as I continued to look at the stars.

"How so?" I had to admire the curiosity he had.

"I've been alone for over 30 years, I figured more about myself and excepted the things I can't change, at least the ones I had noticed before I came back." I looked at him and he was examining the stars as I was.

He seemed to be collecting everything I said to him. It made me smile. He even laid down and I followed his action.

"Do you know how far the closest star is Steven?" I felt the need to ask him.

"I don't know, how far away?" He sounded like he was still tired.

"It's about 4.24 light years away from us. Everything in some aspect is far away, yet some things are closer than others." I said as I sat up.

"Like you and Amethyst?" I knew he knew something, but I didn't know what he was told.

"I don't know how close we are now, but yea in some ways we are light years apart." I pulled my knees to my chest.

"What happened between you two that made you run away?" He sounded worried but not like he was going to push on the subject.

"I did something I shouldn't have," I buried my face into my knees, "I fell for her and kissed her."

"Did that upset you?" He sat up and looked down at his feet.

"Yes and no, it felt right when I did it but I felt bad after because I didn't see how she felt before hand and I forced my feeling onto her." I looked over at him. "Enough about me are you ok?"

"Yea, I don't like seeing people hurt." He said I didn't believe that fully but he didn't force me to tell him whats as wrong so I want going to force him. He will talk about it when he's ready.

"Is Amethyst hurt?" I asked after the realization that he might not be talking about me.

"I don't know she's been staying in her room more and more lately, I don't know why though." I felt bad after he said that.

It must be my fault I forced my feeling on her, I need to apologize. I stood up, "how do I get to her room?"

"I guess you could ask pearl or..." He started.

"Thanks Steven, sorry I need to get this done now," I said as I ran inside, "Pearl... Can you get me to..." I looked over and saw Amethyst looking at me like she was shocked, "Amethyst..."

She grabbed my arm and pulled me into a room full of piles of trash. "I'm sorry..." She said as she stood there and looked at the ground.

"You have nothing to apologize for," I said as I made her look up at me, "I'm the one that should apologize, I forced my feelings onto you with out..."

"I should have done something to make you stay and I feel something for you but I didn't tell you. I enjoyed the kiss, but I know you don't love me like you loved her. So I didn't respond to it." She walked over to the pictures and pulled out the one of the girl I use to love. "I can tell you love her by how much detail you put into her.

"Her name was Hannah..." I said as I pushed her hand down to her side with the pictures in it. "I use to love her, I came to terms I cant be with her and I no longer want to. I found someone that isn't as many light years away. And she is so much closer." I remember my conversation with Steven and I took a step closer to Amethyst.

Her eyes were full of tears just waiting to over fill. With one blink tears started to stream her face. I put my hand to her cheek and wiped one of the tears away with my thumb.

"Amethyst, I think I have fallen in love with you." Instantly after I said that she clashed her lips onto mine. And a comforting warmth spread from her lips and made me feel warm and safe.

Yea, I have Greg, but something has changed about our friendship it has been 34 years after all, the bond may rebuild. But as of right now Amethyst is my closest star. She may be light years away in some ways but she's close enough for me to enjoy her being here.

I couldn't help but to kiss Amethyst back. "Hey can I show you something?" I asked as soon as I pulled away from the kiss.

She kissed my cheek before nodding her head. I drug her to the warp pad and took her were Jasper kept me as a prisoner.

"Why are we here?"

"Jasper had me for a few days, but I want to show you a picture." I ran to the hole I was kept in and carefully tried to climb into it.

Amethyst shape shifted and helped me get to the hole then climbed in herself. Her eyes went wide as she saw some of the drawing.

"How did you draw these?" She asked as she examined a picture of Steven that had been redrawn in the crater Jasper made.

"I found a rock," I grabbed her hand, "that's not what I wanted to show you."

I lead her to the picture of her.

"You said you could tell I loved Hannah by how much detail I put into her, well..." I moved so she could see the picture if her, "what does this tell you how I feel about you?"

She put her hand on the picture. "You can draw with anything..."

She laughed before pulling me close to her and kissing me. This kiss seemed more passionate that the last and the one. And I made me feel different like I was a bird who finally learned to fly.

I kissed her back, and I felt a tear run down my cheek. I honestly haven't felt this loved in years and I never felt this way with Hannah. As much as I loved that moment we couldn't, well I couldn't, continue without running out of breath.

"Hey Amethyst, do you think it would be a good idea if I went to see my mother after not seeing her for all this time and still looking the same?" I couldn't help but ask as we walked back to the warp pad and I couldn't help but steal another love filled kiss before going back to where the crystal gems stayed all stayed.
