he should remain the exact way he is, perfect. the light shining through his hair, the city lights led his way down the street. the smoke that hung in the air around him. he was more than a god in the shadows.

the manners in which they met were messed up. drunken first meetings that were not perfectly planned, and pete was a perfectionist, but from a night of monitoring he couldn't help but realize the boy was flawless.

their hands were strung together, tied together as they walked down the boardwalk.

"y'know, I don't usually let strangers take me home on the first date."

"well, Mikey, i don't usually take strangers home on the first date," pete chuckled.

"oh you live at the boardwalk now?" he said stopping in front of a ice cream stand. the umbrella over it was strung with lights that shone brighter than the stars.

"you want ice cream, mikeyway?" he asked, words slurred together from the presence of  one too many drinks

"i think i would, as long as you're paying." mikey's face heated up from the nickname, this drunken man made him feel special.

pete bought the younger boy an ice cream cone, sitting on the bench close by, and eating it with him.

"everything out here is a dark paradise, and you fit in perfectly," pete complemented, making mikey blush again.

mikey stared in the dark water, the moonlight's reflection making it a silky white under the dark blue, almost black, sky.

"it's all so pretty," he stuttered out.

"like you," pete said, smugly.

and there they stayed, in some dark paradise of pete's creation.
