Moments like this make you scared. I feel sick to the stomach, I don't want to get out of bed.
"Aya, you must get up." My Japanese mother calls ever so softly praying that I would one day get out of bed.
"Yes Rika." I force myself out of bed. I gradually slip on my white button up shirt, my blue chequered skirt and matching tie in red on. I brush out my long lengthen brunette hair applying little mascara.
"Breakfast is ready!"
"Thanks Rika." I pause. School, what's going to happen? What will I learn and what will I say to people? Small bites are all I could take, I ended leaving half of what was there because I felt so nervous.
"Bye Rika." I run before she got a chance to say goodbye. I hate goodbyes, I can't stand them after having to really mean goodbye to my mama and papa, and nothing ever felt the same. School wasn't so far away, just a few corners and I was there.
"Well, there it is." I sigh before taking dreadful steps into my first day. I look around and people were already heading to class.
"Are you lost?" A young girl stands before me.
"Just a tad." I add. The young girl grins before turning around assuming I'd follow behind. Long braids, coloured bands cover half the plait, she didn't seem to be from Japan.
"Excuse me Miss, but she's arrived." She talked as if she knew me.
"Ah Miss Yamazaki, a pleasure to meet you, I am Miss Miura."
Afraid, shaky and agitated, I shake her hand in kindness.
"Yamazaki, this is Chang, she will be showing you around for the time being, I hope you enjoy your first day of school." She slyly grins. Chang begins to walk off; it's assumed I were to follow.
"Um Chang, where abouts is the bathroom?"
"Just down the hall a little further, Miss Miura has a thing with calling everyone by their surnames, my actual name is Julia." Things started to make a lot of sense.
"Oh okay, well my name is Aya, instead of you having to call me Yamazaki all the time." Julia giggles. For once I had smiled on the first day of school.
"I'll have to introduce everyone to you, we have so many people from different cultures at this school, it's crazy!"
"Yeah, that would be great." Both of us eventually stagger to class. No teacher? This school is weird.
"Hey guys! We have a new girl." Julia begins to introduce me, but everyone stops and stare.
"Hi." All I could manage to get out was a 'Hi'? That's how sick I feel right now...
"Her name is Aya Yamazaki, she's only new so be kind." I can already see the friend groups. Girls that look like the type to mess around, a group of guys sat at the back, I assume they're the 'popular' kids of the school, two boys that sat at the front who seem very kind, and the other few girls who look stuck up, or maybe that was just all I could assume.
"Hey girly I'm Hwoarang." The red head boy winked ever so fake, I didn't know how to react.
"Oi shut it, you've scared the poor lady off." I couldn't see who it was because I had already placed my books down, but he had a thick British accent.
"I'm Christie! This is Lili."
"I'm Miharu! These is Xiaoyu and Alisa!"
"Oh my god it's a new girl!" One of the guys faked a girly voice. One thing I noticed about the boys was an awfully quiet boy. He had nudged his friend before rolling his eyes. He wasn't like the others; he was mysterious yet it satisfied me.
"Anyway," Julia spoke in a loud voice "This is our homeroom, just outside in the hall is where the lockers are, I'll show you." She led me outside, I was thankful.
"Thanks Julia." She gives me a piece of paper that reads the numbers of my combination. I open my locker and place my bag and books on the shelves.
"These lockers are awesome compared to anywhere else I've lived." I admit taking bits and pieces out and placing them on the inside of the locker door.
"Is that your parents?"
"My adopted parents, well they passed away a few weeks ago and I was transferred to Japan."
"I'm sorry to hear, you know I'm adopted too."
"Really?"
"Yeah, my tribe had left me behind and my mother had raised me since." I found her story fascinating, because finally she and I were alike.
