I ran down the stairs and pulled my phone out of my pocket. My hands were shaking and I could barely dial the number to call.
"911 what's your emergency?"
"My stepdad is drunk and he's beating up my friend and I don't know what to do," I was already crying and breathing really heavy.
"Okay we'll send someone to help you," the woman's voice was so kind and so calm.
"Thank you so much," I blubbered.
"Do you need me to stay on the line with you?"
"Yes." I just needed someone. Anyone.
"What is your name sweetheart?"
"My name is Livia Harmon."
"How old are you Livia?"
"I'm sixteen."
She kept asking me random questions to keep me calm. After a few moments, I heard the police cars drive up and I thanked the woman on the phone and hung up.
Two officers ran up the stairs and came downstairs pulling David. One officer holding each of his arms.
I ran upstairs and found Ashton sitting on my mom's bed with his head in his hands. I walked up to him and stood right in front of him. I placed my hand on his shoulder and he looked up at me with wide eyes.
I gasped at the sight if what David had done to Ashton. He had a black eye already starting to swell, his bottom lip was spit open, and his nose was bleeding.
Josh had gotten in a few fights with David before, but none have ended like this. David has never acted like this.
I rubbed my finger across Ash's cut lip and he winced. "Ashton..."
"I'm sorry," he looked down and started to pick at his fingers.
"Ashton, you saved my life," I cupped his face in my hands and looked right into his tired eyes. "Thank you."
"Miss Harmon?" One of the officers came back into the room, "Can we ask you some questions?"
"Of course," I wiped my eyes and tried to compose myself. I grabbed Ashton's hand and pulled him with me.
I answered all the officer's questions and they drove away with David in the back of their car.
Ashton and I walked back into the house holding hands. When we got through the door, Ashton closed it behind us. I turned around and leaned my head into his chest. He gently wrapped his arms around me and held me close.
After a moment of peaceful silence, I gasped, "My mom!" I never called my mom!
I pulled my phone out of my pocket and dialed my moms number. I walked away and Ashton followed me and wrapped his arms back around me from behind. I just giggled as my mom answered the phone.
"Hi sweetie! I'm in an important meeting, is this an emergency?" she whispered urgently.
"Yeah, kind of."
"What?"
"When I got home, the entire downstairs was thrashed. And I went upstairs to see if I could figure out what happened and David was in your room and he was super drunk and he grabbed me, but Ashton was there and he got David to let go of me but then David started to beat the crap out of Ashton so I ran downstairs and called 911 and the police came and arrested David," I said as fast as I could.
"What?" She gasped, "Are you and your friend okay?"
I turned around and looked at Ashton. "He's a little beat up, but he'll be okay eventually." I rubbed my finger over his lip again and he smiled at my touch.
"I'll be right home, okay?"
"Okay, I'll see you then." I hung up the phone. "My mom's on her way home. Let's wash your face off," I smiled, walking into the bathroom.
I set up my stool and got a wash rag from the cabinet. "Have a seat," I said to Ashton as I ran hot water over the rag. I turned around and he was sitting on stool. I brought the rag up to his nose and wiped the dried blood from around it. I rinsed the rag and watched the red liquid wash from it. I took the rag and touched it to Ashton's bottom lip. He winced away in pain and refused to let me touch it again.
"Ash, don't be a baby," I giggled.
He placed his hands on my hips and pulled me to him. "But Livia, it hurts..." He pouted.
I rolled my eyes and looked away, trying not to laugh.
"Livia..." He repeated, starting to laugh. He pulled me closer to him.
I crossed my arms across my chest and refused to make eye contact with him.
"Livia..." he stood up and pulled me even closer to him so my arms were the only thing between us. I was just about to break a smile when I heard the front door open.
"My mom's home!" I jumped from his arms and ran to the door, laughing.
"Livia, are you okay?" my mom dropped her purse and ran to me and felt my face to see if I was okay. "Are you hurt? Where's your friend? Is he okay?"
Just then, Ashton walked around the corner and my mom gasped. She ran up to him and checked him too. "Are you okay?" She touched his face and he winced away. She gasped again, "Ashton, I am so sorry. Do I need to talk to your parents or anyone to explain?""I'm alright, thank you," he said awkwardly as my mom continued to look intently at his face.
I stepped between Ashton and my mom. "He's okay, mom," I laughed.
"Fine, but you should really put some ice on your eye."
"Okay," me and Ash said in unison.
"I hate to leave you here like this, but I have twenty minutes to be back at work and I guess I have to get Nicole from school. So I will see you at 6:30," she kissed the top of my head. "Goodbye Ashton," she patted him on the shoulder and we waved as she left.
"I am so sorry about that," I sigh, "My mom is so embarrassing." I covered my face with my hands.
"It's cute," he smiled and pulled me toward him. "She reminds me of my mom." He wrapped his arms around me and I wrapped my arms around his torso. I squeezed him tight and he groaned.
"Oh my gosh I'm so sorry!" I looked up and his face was filled with pain.He put on a weak smile and pulled me close again. "It's alright," he kissed the top of my head.
