Ch. 27

DEMTRI’S POV

“Do you Demtri Reece Cater Hudson take Arabella Lea Elizabeth Monroeto be your lawfully wed wife?” The priest asked his brooding voice echoing through the trees.

I ground my teeth together but spit out the words ignoring the pain it caused me, “I do.”

Arabella stared up at me with an expressionless face. I was sure that I either looked the same or my eyes would be furious. My whole body was stiff. My back straight and my fist clenched at my sides.

“Yes!” Cordelia shouted. She turned toward Patricia with a large smile, “That was perfect. This area is wonderful and the trees will make a great backdrop.”

“Can we come down now?” I asked impatiently from the small stage we were standing on.

Cordelia was already walking back towards the castle but she waved a hand, “Yes you two are free to do whatever until dinner.”

“Thank God that’s done.” Arabella sighed as she reached down and slipped off her heels.

I loosened my ties as I walked down the steps. “Tell me about it.” I murmured.

I could hear Arabella’s bare feet slap against the wood of the stage as she climbed down. We fell into step next to each other but stayed in an awkward silence. When I turned to look at her I couldn’t see her face through her thick curtain of dark hair so I turned back around with a scowl.

“You don’t have to be so grumpy all the time.” Arabella grumbled crossing her arms and picked up speed so she was a few feet in front of me.

I felt my temper flare; grumpy? Didn’t I have a right to be a little upset? Not only was my life turning into a bad soap opera but I was running on a few short hours of sleep. I reached out and grabbed her arm; not enough to hurt her but enough to stop her in her tracks.

“Are you’re just a bundle of joy yourself.”  I snapped at her.

“What is your problem?” She whispered but looked like she wanted to yell it.

“My problem is-“ I hissed back my voice getting louder before I was cut off by Cordelia.

“Oh why don’t you both get started on your vows?” She cried looking at us with raised eyebrows.
