The raindrops slithered down on the window pane; unsteadily, as if racing one other. They created uneven marks while they continued to slide and graze against the window's glass. And there she sat, watching silently, drowning herself in the sound of falling rain.
It was a Friday afternoon and Kath was drowned in her thoughts. 'Bakit kaya ang sweet na niya sakin?' 'Hindi na siguro umeepal si Jerralyne no?' These thoughts had been bugging her for quite a while and it made her feel uneasy.
Deej was making it seem like they've known each other for a while but, it's only been a semester since she first met him.
On the first day of the semester, you could see that the old group of friends stuck together, doing their own things. While the newer ones either tried to fit in or just stayed in a place by themselves. You'll find them in the halls, in the library, their class rooms, the cafeteria, and usually the washrooms.
Kath belonged to a group. Just a group of three consisting of her, Sofia, and Tim. They've always been together from the beginning of Kindergarten up to their college years. At that moment, Tim was just staying with the girls although he's from a different department.
They were having a normal conversation when Kath decided to stand and stretch her arms out. The day hasn't even started and she was already undeniably tired. She felt her hands make contact with something, she might have actually hit it accidentally too. Her head turned and saw a big group of both guys and girls chit chatting.
Then that's when she saw him. He was staring at her, with a bewildered look plastered on his face. Kath stared at him for as long as she could have remembered and he didn't take his gaze off of her either. She felt as if something was attracting her to him, like something didn't want her to look away.
"That's it. Class dismissed. Your essay is due Monday, beginning of class, next week. Enjoy your day everyone."
She returned to her senses and started packing up her unused notes and closed book. 'Dapat talaga mag aral na ako, pero, ain't nobody got time for dat!' Kath murmured under her breath.
It was still raining outside when she realized she didn't bring an umbrella. 'Just my beautiful luck.'
Kath called Sofia, expecting an answer but, instead Kath only heard her voicemail. Sofia's obviously busy so she can't get a ride with her. She doesn't want to call their driver either since he's probably busy with her parents. Her shoulders fell and she decided to wait for a jeepney or a tricycle outside of her building.
Two hands suddenly covered her eyes and she started to get nervous but, she hid that. She hurriedly removed the hands from her face and turned around to see Deej behind her. Relief was then written all over her face. 'Pano ko nga naman nakalimutan boyfriend ko? Baliw.'
"Did I scare you?"
"Medyo. Kala ko kung sino na eh."
"Sorry na." He said as he hugged her. Kath was startled because she still isn't used to the fact that he's acting like this.
"Pano ka nga pala uuwi?" Kath felt his breath on her head. He still hasn't let go of her so her body eased and she hugged him back.
"Yun nga eh, naiwan ko yung payong ko sa condo."
"Hatid na kita? Kunin ko lang sa parking lot yung kotse."
"Ahh, thanks."
"No problem. Diyan ka lang ah?" She nodded and he planted a kiss on her forehead.
