He was only 5.

Diane Lester had found Kevin, her husband, cheating on her. It was a long time thing. An affair of almost 2 years. She was devastated, she couldn't handle it, eventually falling into a mental breakdown.

Diane had been pampered and pushed around in a pram her whole life, fed from a golden spoon. Her parents did everything in their power to protect her from the 'evils' of the world. So, evidentially, when her heart was first broken, she simply could not handle it.

Of course, she didn't leave Kevin. Instead, she stayed with him and tried to change herself for him. She didn't know what the other women had that she didn't. Also, she wouldn't know what to do with herself without a man to control her. She was basically a T.V. housewife.

Kevin lost all respect for Diane when she didn't leave him. He believed that any sane woman would leave and find someone that respects her. So he started to take advantage of her. First, he got aggressive. He hit her when she didn't do what he wanted exactly when he wanted. He knew she wouldn't go running off to tell anyone. Plus, it made the chores get done faster. Then, martial rape. She always said no. But Kevin didn't care. Really, all he cared about was himself. Diane almost went completely insane.

She started smoking and drinking in attempt to cope. These things didn't bring her pleasure. though. Diane took her anger out on her youngest son, Phil. It started with her burning out her cigarettes on his skin. His screams and cries were oddly pleasing to her. She hit him-hard- just like Kevin did to her. She kicked him, slapped, pulled his hair, and shoved him around. It turned into all around child neglect. She forgot to feed him or change him out of his dirty clothes. He often had to depend on his older brother for any type of care.

It was surprising that Phil didn't have any neurological damage. The verbal and physical abuse would be enough to push anyone over the edge.

But outside and around friends and family, she acted like the perfect mother. She smiled, kissed, hugged and baby talked. Everything to make it seem like they were the perfect family.

He was only 5 when his father started abusing his mother and his mother started abusing him.
