Again, Phil sat next to Dan in class. Dan rolled his eyes, wondering when he would leave him alone. Their teacher, Mr. Payne, walked into the classroom and started prepping for class.

"He's kinda fat." But Phil joked. "But like, only in stomach area. Why do you think that is?"

"I don't know Phil. Quit body shaming him."

"I'm not body shaming." Phil said. After a moment of silence, he asked, "Do you think he's pregnant?"

"Guys can't get pregnant. Besides it's probably a beer belly or something."

"You never know. Maybe with an alien baby." Phil said with jazz hands.

Dan laughed, "shut up Phil." Phil smiled at that, knowing he was growing on him.

The bell rang, signifying class had started. Before he lost his chance, Phil nervously asked, "You wanna- uh- you wanna maybe come over? Like to my house? Today after school?"

"No, Phil. I don't want  to go to your house." Dan said. He hated being rude, but he couldn't help it.

"C'mon. We can watch Death Note." Phil persuaded.

Dan turned to him, compelled. "What makes you think I want to watch Death Note with you?"

Snickering, Phil answered, "No one can resist a good anime marathon."

At the end of the school day, Dan and Phil met up.

"I walk home, the bus kinda really sucks." Phil said.

"Tell me about it." Dan said under his breath. He walked beside Phil without trying to start up any conversation. Phil, on the other hand, was the opposite.

"So what're your parents like?" Phil asked.

Dan ignored him. He still didn't intend to be Phil's friend.

"What're your friends like?" He asked. Again, he was ignored.

"Okay.. do you have any siblings?"

Dan was going to ignore him, but he couldn't resist talking about his brother, who he adored. "One. He's the best, his name is Adrian. He's the best. He's so smart, the top of his class. Plus, we never argue. He's perfect. He's the best."

Phil smiled. He found Dan's repetitiveness adorable.

After Phil didn't ask anymore questions, Dan decided to ask one. "How do you like school so far?"

Phil snorted.

"It's not the greatest place in the world. But I haven't given up hope."

After a short pause, Phil asked, "What do you think of David Dobrik?"

Dan looked at Phil. "What do I think of David Dobrik? The school dick? Gee Phil, I dunno. He's just that, a dick."

"C'mon. He can't be that bad." Phil said, despite what had happened on the bus.

"You can't tell me he's a good person," Dan said, astonished at Phil's positivity. "Have you never talked to him because."

"We've had a confrontation. Once. But, everyone's fighting a battle in their own lives. I think he can be a nice guy."

"Confrontation? What-" Phil cut off Dan.

"This ones mine, sir." Phil lead Dan up the driveway and unlocked the door. His mum was sitting in the front room, looking up when the boys walked in.

"Hi mum! Look, I made a friend." Phil proudly presented Dan to his mother.

She got up and came over to them. She looked Dan up and down, evaluating him. "Hi, My name is," he paused and stuck out his hand for a hand shake. "Dan." She shook his and nodded.

"Hello Dan, it's very nice to meet you. You seem like a lovely boy. Why don't you two run along and I'll bring snacks up in a minute." Diane smiled and showed Dan to the stairs.

"Your mum's really nice." Dan said once in the security of Phil's room. Phil laughed.
"She's just putting up an act. She's really not nice, at all."

"Trust me, she can't be as bad as my parents." Dan mumbled.

They were both completely oblivious of each others situations.
