He was bored. Now that Jimin had Yoongi again, Taehyung didn't exactly fit into the equation. He knew he'd always be invited around, and he'd never pass up the chance to mess with Yoongi or see Jimin, but he was so used to the past few months of just Jimin keeping him company and being available as soon as Tae was. Jin wasn't at the store and he didn't know where else to go to make friends.
He had gotten off of work and decided a coffee was in order when his chance to shine appeared in the form of a boy with a small frame and a mop top of black hair. Tae trailed along behind him without a thought to the weird nature he was probably projecting and when the boy turned into the same place Taehyung was aiming for he deemed it fate.
This boy gave out an air of being older, despite his small frame, but his face betrayed his true youth. Beyond the doe eyes that widened at Tae's presence, Taehyung sensed something that drew him to this person. He couldn't put a finger on it yet but he wasn't in a rush.
"I'm Taehyung." He stuck out his hand and kept it there for the other to take the entire time he ordered his coffee. It was obvious the boy was feeling trepidation but Taehyung saw a crack in the shell and practically felt the curiosity oozing out.
"I'm Jeon Jungkook. It's nice to meet you." There was a slight incline of his head as though he were questioning his words as he said them but his voice didn't waver. And what a voice it was. Taehyung was immediately pulled even closer to this boy and couldn't be put off when the boy, Jungkook, moved to sit at a table without waiting on him.
"What do you say we get to know each other Jeon Jungkook?" He received a blush from the boy at the table. He wasn't exactly being discreet, yelling across half the store, but better to let Jungkook know now that he wasn't ever discreet. Once his iced coffee met his gloves he sauntered straight over to the seat next to Jungkook, giving him little space to try and duck away from the conversation Taehyung was about to initiate.
"You're very different."
"It's my pleasure." He smirked and took a sip. He wasn't sure why he thought making friends would be so hard without Jimin. Obviously he could fend for himself and Jungkook was a very good catch.
"Why would you want to talk to me?" Taehyung didn't give the seed of doubt a chance to plant itself and fended off the question easily.
"Who wouldn't want to talk to you? I bet you're a singer and all the girls follow you around looking less than half as cute as you."
"Are you... nevermind." Jungkook averted his eyes and sipped at his coffee, looking for all the world like a painting. Taehyung mulled over what Jimin said last time he fell too fast for someone but couldn't be arsed to care about it when those eyes found his again. He'd woo this boy and maybe they'd last more than a night.
"So what do you do?" Jungkook blushed.
"I'm just a student."
"Well how old are you?"
"I'm 20."
"You're only a year under me. I didn't go to school."
"Not any?"
"I dropped out of my high school in Daegu."
"Why?" Taehyung's smile grew wider. For such a bashful act, Jungkook was quick to respond and ask questions. He liked that, it made things more of a challenge. Jungkook wouldn't just roll over and do as Tae asked.
"Why do you feel privy to that information?" The blush was back.
"You don't have to."
"I know." Jungkook just let an incredulous smile cross his face and the blush highlighted it well.
"You're very different."
"You've said that before, oppa." Taehyung's phone rang and he answered it but not before letting the shock of the last word hit Jungkook full force.
"Jiminnie, I missed you. You've left me to fend for myself and I think I've found someone to pass the time with." Jungkook was still sputtering and people were beginning to look over at them.
"Quit harassing people and come here Tae." Jimin's voice sounded a bit off but Taehyung dismissed it.
"I don't come when I'm called."
"Not even when I say you can see Yoongi's bedroom?"
"I'll use it all as fuel next time he says something bad about you. I'm sure it looks like a pig-pen."
"I just want you here Tae, please."
"Did he already do something?" Taehyung stood up and Jungkook was pushed to the back of his mind.
"No, he's just busy. Namjoon is going through some stuff and took off and Yoongi is looking for him." Taehyung calmed down a bit but he knew how much Jimin didn't like being alone.
"I'll be there soon. Send me the address."
"Thank you Tae." He clicked the end call button and was about to turn and walk out the door when a hand grabbed his wrist.
"Are you okay?" He looked Jungkook over one last time before walking over to the counter and grabbing a pen and paper from the other side. The worker had just watched him with a quirked eyebrow but he supposed he came in enough that they just accepted his behavior by now. He scribbled out his phone number and full name and faced Jungkook again. He looked downcast and Taehyung realized he must have thought he was going to leave. In a moment he had the paper sitting next to Jungkook's drink.
"Call me sometime. I'll be busy the next few hours probably but you caught my attention. I'll look forward to it." He flashed his boxy smile, the one Jimin could never resist and was surprised to see one meet his.
"I'll text and make sure you're free first."
"Sounds like a deal." With that he was gone, walking briskly away from the doe-eyed boy and towards the comfortable embrace of his best friend.
Taehyung got to the neighborhood he vaguely remembered and when he approached the door he felt a bit chilly. He wasn't one to get cold but the temperature dropped a few degrees each night and out here, away from the bustle of people, it seemed like much more. He rapped at the door and Jimin pulled it open. The last thing he remembered was Jimin's concerned face and the feel of cold tiles against his back.
