Emery was scouring the town of New Orleans, trying to find something or someone that would clue her in to where the Mikaelson family had disappeared to in less than 24 hours.
It wasn't until she reached the graveyard where Monique Deveraux had climbed out of her grave only a day prior that she spotted aforementioned girl and figured if anyone knew anything, the resurrected witch would.
Many others had already left the sight and Monique was one of the few left along with two other witches that were heading out the courtyard along with her.
Emery was quick to stop the Deveraux witch, causing chains to come up from the Deveraux tomb and wrap themselves around her.
Coming out of the shadows, the other two witches spotted Emery and held up their hands to attack.
The blonde Trickster wasted no time and batted them away, making them choke on their own blood. If Monique didn't fess up, they would be dead soon enough.
"Where's Klaus?" She demanded
Monique laughed sinisterly, desperately trying to break her bonds, "I've heard about you. They say that you're stronger than all the Originals combined. Let's test that, shall we?"
A pounding ache broke free upon Emery's skull as she was brought to her knees. The Deveraux witch was strong, no doubt. But foolish.
If 'they' [Emery assumed Monique was talking about her ancestors] claimed that Emery was as powerful as she knew that she was, Monique would have been wise to listen.
Growling in pain, she stood up though the witch was quick to retaliate. Her bonds were becoming looser which gave her more room to intensify the spell.
"Guess you aren't all they say you are, after all," Monique taunted.
It was easy to piss off Emery. All you had to do was act like a conceited douche, which most humans and supernatural creatures alike managed to do.
But...right now, in this very moment, Emery wasn't pissed. She was livid.
With a flick of her hand, the bonds wrapped themselves around the young witch, digging into her skin, stopping the spell on the spot.
Emery stood up, eyes dark and body tense. She was out for blood.
Knowing that the Deveraux witch still had information she needed, Emery took her anger out elsewhere.
Tombs all around began exploding from the inside. Some body parts scattered around like from a mangled doll's. The two witches from earlier were killed; one upon impact as a flying stone fell on top of her hunched body, and the other after Emery decided that exploding stone wasn't enough, making the girl's head detonate.
Monique's eyes widened. Not having felt fear since she was brought back, this was a new emotion to her. This Emery was more powerful than the ancestors had described, a true Trickster, and Monique had just managed to infuriate her.
"I'm feeling merciful today," Emery growled, "so you have five seconds to tell me where Klaus is or I'll rip off your body parts one by one and send them to your coven."
And so Monique did what Monique had to do. She spilled. Just like most witches prefer doing, she survived.
---
Monique had been kept out of the loop quite a bit. They hadn't even told her where they were keeping Klaus and Rebekah, only that it was being taken care of.
Emery couldn't blame her for that, especially after she managed to let it slip that she overheard something about a sanatorium.
So, Emery did research. There were five sanatoriums in the local area; only three that were shut down.
