*Quick A/N: This story takes place six months after the ending of Miracle Unexpected*

Sometimes late at night Katy would stay up with Shawn just talking about all the things she hoped to accomplish in the future.

Some were simple things, some seemed impossible. However, her husband listened to everything she had to say and he never talked down to her. Shawn made her feel like she could do anything and for once she truly believed it.

An alarm clock set for 5:00 am buzzed through the quiet apartment, signaling that it was time for Katy to get up and get ready for work at her morning shift at Topanga's. The woman took a brief glance at her sleeping husband, she smiled a little and got out of bed to start her day.

She savored the quiet stillness and warm cup of coffee, as she knew it wouldn't be long before her 8 month old would be awake and she'd have to feed him before heading to work.

A few minutes later, as if on cue, she heard the faint cries of her son coming from the bedroom. Shawn appeared holding their son, his hair still tousled and his sleepy eyes adjusting to the light.

“Morning, honey” said Katy, setting down her coffee cup and reaching her arms out for the baby.

“Morning” replied Shawn, exchanging a quick kiss with his wife as he handed Shawn Jr. to her.

As Katy sat in the rocking chair in the living room feeding her son, she sighed softly as she looked at the stack of fliers and scripts for each audition she had gone to and future auditions she hoped to pursue. She felt as if her moment was so close. But how close? When would she finally have her moment to shine?

However, she pushed those thoughts aside to face her reality. And her reality at the moment was that she had a shift to work and had to get moving. She kissed baby Shawnie goodbye and placed him in his playpen.

Katy called out to Shawn as she grabbed her keys and purse, and tied her apron around her waist. “Babe? I'm heading to work. Shawn's in the playpen and make sure Maya’s up in time so she's not late for school”

“Okay, hon. Have a great day” Shawn acknowledged as he came out to give Katy a kiss goodbye before she headed to work.

------

Katy was prepared for yet another typical morning shift at Topanga's.

There were the usual customers, of course. You had the business people, always in a rush. You had the zombie-like dead eyed college students just needing their caffeine fix to get them through the day. And then you had the casual early risers, simply enjoying their morning with a light breakfast and perhaps a latte.

They were slower than usual that morning, which to Katy was both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, it was nice when things weren't too busy so that way she wasn't driving herself insane. On the other, it also meant boredom and Katy could be quite the restless spirit.

There were only a few customers at the moment and she began humming softly as she cleared off a few empty tables. Without even realizing it, the humming ended up turning into actual singing and she had basically put on a woman show for herself, starring herself.

She thought that no one could hear her, but she soon discovered she couldn't be more wrong. An older gentleman was eyeing her intently, as if he were trying to figure something out. Katy tried to ignore him at first, thinking he was just a typical creep who liked to stare. It wouldn't be the first time she's had to deal with that, especially with being a waitress.

Finally, though, she had decided she had enough. She approached the man, tilting her head slightly. “I'm sorry sir but do you have a problem?” said Katy.

The man raised his eyebrows, a look of bewilderment on his face. “Me? Heavens no, no problem at all. I apologize if it came off that way. It wasn't my intention at all”

“So then what are your intentions, exactly?” said Katy, folding her arms.

He pulled out a card out of the inner pocket of his suit and handed it to Katy. “Steven Grant. I'm a talent agent. We're looking to cast for the upcoming musical Waitress, and after hearing you sing, I think it would be in your best interest to consider auditioning. You have the voice, the authenticity, you should share that with the world.”

For what seemed like an eternity, Katy stood there motionless without saying a word. This had clearly taken her by surprise. Sure, she went to countless auditions whenever she could, but the last place she ever pictured herself being discovered in was when she was working at the bakery.

“Is..is this forreal?” said Katy, furrowing her eyebrows as she examined the card.

“Yes. I can assure you I'm a legitimate agent, and you can check my credentials if you like.” replied Grant.

Now thinking about it, she had heard of this agency before and it was a pretty big deal within the very large circle of aspiring actors and actresses.

“Well...thank you..Mr. Grant. I will definitely consider” said  Katy, smiling brightly as she shook his hand. She attempted to keep cool, although she was actually screaming on the inside.

The rest of the day seemed to fly by. She was remaining cautiously optimistic, yet the smile on her face wouldn't wear off anytime soon, and she could hardly wait to get home to tell her family the news.

------

“Honeyyy, I'm home” said Katy in a playful sing-song tone as she entered the apartment. Shawn was seated on the couch watching TV while the baby played on the floor.

“Well you're in a good mood” said Shawn, raising his eyebrows and grinning widely. He stood up, embracing Katy in his arms.

“That's because I am. You're never gonna believe what happened today” responded Katy.

“What happened?” asked Shawn.

“I got approached by an agent today at work. He wants me to audition for the musical Waitress” Katy began bouncing up and down excitedly. “Broadway, Shawn!!”

The way Shawn's eyes widened and his entire face lit up, you'd think that Katy had just told him she had won an Oscar. “Katy, oh my god, that's amazing! I know Broadway has always been your dream.”

Katy nodded, her eyes tearing up a little. “It has”

“I'm so happy for you, baby.” said Shawn as he pulled her in for another hug and excitedly kissed her lips.

“What's all the commotion about?” said Maya, appearing from her bedroom. Baby Shawn reached his arms up for Maya to pick him up and she held him as she eyed her parents curiously.

Shawn and Katy both looked at each other as if to decide who should tell her first. Shawn gestured for Katy to tell her.

“I got an audition for Broadway, baby girl. An agent discovered me today at work” said Katy happily.

“What? Oh my gosh, Mom. Congratulations!” said Maya, knowing how badly her Mom has wanted this opportunity for as long as she can remember.

“Thank you. Both of you. I don't wanna get my hopes up too high just yet, though.  I haven't even auditioned yet and I may not even get the part..” said Katy.

Shawn put his hands firmly on her shoulders and stared into Katy's eyes. “You're going to get the part.” he said.

“Well, thank you Shawn. I appreciate your unwavering confidence in me” replied Katy.

Shawn smiled, kissing her forehead. “Always. You're going to kill it. I just know it.”

“Yeah, Mom. You got this.” said Maya, wrapping an arm around her mother.

Katy wrapped her arms around both Maya and Shawn and the whole family engaged in an encouraging group hug. “You're right. I got this..”, she said softly.

And she believed it.
