Edward's POV
Well, this was not my idea of education, but nobody cared what my ideas were. The class sat on the bleachers, listening to Coach Clapp explain what we would be doing. I was not excited to play badminton as I was probably the only boy ever to manage to hit himself in the eye and leg in the same swing.
As I ignored Coach Clapp's directions, my gaze shifted over to the Cullens. Bella, Alice, and Jasper sat on the lowest bench. Their mouths seemed to be moving but I couldn't hear any sound. Alice snapped her eyes up to me and immediately turned away. I bit my lip, wondering whether or not to go up to them later and ask what their problem was with close contact, but decided against it. I was not in the mood for intimidating strangers disliking me.
"Go!" Coach Clapp shouted. I stood up, only to find Taylor in my face. "Wanna be partners?" she asked excitedly. I sighed. "Sure, why not?" I offered her a forced smile. She didn't notice and took it as an enthusiastic gesture. Boy, was she wrong.
Bella and Alice stood side by side, about three yards away from everyone else. I lost myself in their perfect faces, their amazingly flawless features.
The games began. Soon enough, I was able to knock myself on the head and shoulder, trip over Taylor's huge feet, flip between my legs (don't ask), and smack myself in the mouth.
I watched the Cullens. They were graceful as gazelles, galloping across the gym for the ball. I sighed. Why couldn't I do that? They were all so perfect, and then there was me, klutzy as ever. How I wished to know what their secret was.
Bella's POV
Edward, the human boy, as my boyfriend? No. That. Could. Not. Happen. What if I hurt him? Oh, all the troubles that that could cause. I decided to just let it go. What else could I do? School went by, no more problems for the time being. Actually, up until the ride home, it was peaceful.
"Rose, what are you doing?" I asked, noting my sister's contraption. Rosalie smiled. "I don't know, I made it out of Alice's shoe," she giggled. I looked at Alice. She was pouting in the passenger seat, barefooted. I laughed with Rose. Nothing better than irritating Alice.
Suddenly, as we swung by the Quileute border, one of the wolves came out. It was a russet-colored boy, about sixteen, but he smelled worse than Emmett after hunting.
He waved out to us and Jasper stopped the car. The boy dashed over to us at an inhuman speed. He grinned at us.
"Hey, I'm Jacob. Uh, I haven't seen you around here. Are you new?" he wondered. We all shook our heads. Jacob rolled his eyes. "Typical me. Talking to strangers. But you look familiar," Jacob said, looking pointedly at me. "SOmething I heard in one of our tribe's stories..."
So next chapter will be up soon. Sorry for the wait.
