Bella's POV
When I opened my eyes again, I saw Edward holding a black suitcase in his muscular arms. Alice was carrying a white one to my Aston Martin.
I jumped up, seeing that I was on the couch, and Edward ran over to me after throwing his bag in the car. "Bella! Its time to go to Maine! Are you okay, love?" he asked, and I grinned up at him. "Hell yeah I am, I wanna go right now!"
Edward chuckled and wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me out the open door. Esme and Rose were out in the garden, and Emmett and Jazz were wrestling outside. I smiled at my family, and then hopped into the passenger seat since Edward refused to let me drive. I grinned, knowing that once he fell asleep I would drive.
"SO are you ready or what?" Edward asked as he ducked into the drivers seat. "Well, what do you consider as 'ready'? Because I just woke up from three hours of agony and now we're going to Maine. I feel kinda messed up," I said, joking a little. He laughed, and I rejoiced in the velvety chortles erupting from my love. "Huh. And you always tell me that I'M messed up," he said, still laughing. I rolled my eyes teasingly and replied, "What can I say Edward, I'm an honest person."
Edward started the car and pressed down on the gas pedal. Hard. I wished I could hear his thoughts like I did everyone else. It was infuriating.
'So are you okay? Like, about before...Bella, I wanna clear it with you about my immortality...so my answer right now is 'Yes'...but we can wait until after graduation if you'd like," Edward offered quietly after a few minutes of comfortable silence. "Edward," I sighed, "can we drop it?" Edward didn't answer, so I guessed he didn't want me to turn back into the unacceptable monster I was a few hours earlier.
I saw Edward's eyes flutter a little while later. I giggled in my head, he was trying to prove he wasn't as weak as we vampires thought all humans were. No, we weren't cocky, than you very much, just truthful. Compared to us, humans were like little ants, or babies. Weak. But my Edward wasn't weak. He was strong and brave, just not as physically strong as a vampire.
When we finally made it into Maine, I had been driving for a half hour. Most of the car ride had been silent due to Edward's unconsciousness. Finally, when we pulled up to the house...he was still asleep. He must have stayed awake the night before.
I picked him up in my arms and carried him inside. I walked up the steps into a large bedroom. It had cocoa brown walls with mahogany furniture, and a king sized beige bed and a great view of the woods. I laid him on the feathery sheets, and strode back downstairs to bring our belongings in.
When I'd unpacked everything, I heard Edward wake up. His breathing hitched and was heavy. I giggled and ran upstairs. He was awake, and looking around. "How'd I get here, love?"
"I carried you. I had to bring out the big guns," I joked, mockingly flexing my arms. He chuckled. "Mmm, you and Em are so alike. Tell me about your relationship with him," he said, sitting up on the bed. I climbed onto the bed.
"Em is my big brother. Thats the simplest way to put it. He is my big teddy bear, and I love him more than anything in this world. Except you. Nothing compares to you," I explained. He looked at me in horror, and I knew what he was thinking without my gift.
"Sadly, yes, I would still ask him to risk his life for you...I would do that to anyone if your life was at risk," I told him. He sighed. "One day, I'll save you. I will." I rolled my eyes. "You already have. You made my life bearable. Thats enough saving to last forever." Edward looked down, and his green eyes locked with my gold ones again.
"What do you say to a walk in the woods?" I immediately shook my head. "There are a lot of bears in there..." I said. "Yeah, and you're a vampire. You eat bears. We'll be fine, Bella," he said stubbornly. I sighed, but smiled and he took my small hand and led me downstairs.
We strode outside onto the frsh grass, and we rounded the corner of the house. "What about Jasper? And Rose? How are you connected there?" Edward questioned as we made our way through the tall trees. Luckily, it was a clear path down to the clearing that I could see, but Edward couldn't.
"I'll just tell you about my relationship to the entire family. Okay, Jazz is like Em, but Emmett, in a way, is...older. I mean, I know Em is actually physically older, and acts younger, but Jazz has a boyish feel to him. So if I need serious advice, I would go to either, but if I need to talk about my problems with someone, Jazz is the one I'd talk to. Otherwise, he and Em are alike."
"Rose is the funny, sweet older sister who's full of spice. She is always watching out for me. Alice is like that too, but she tries to prevent things from happening to me, while Rose always gets revenge after its happened."
"Esme and Carlisle are the best parents I could have. Esme is motherly to all of us, and she absolutely adores you. Carlisle is a real 'daddy', meaning he has a soft spot for us girls. But never forget he loves you, Edward. We all do," I finished. We finally stepped out onto soft grass, and spotted a bubbling stream in the corner of the clearing.
Edward caressed my face, and murmured, "Bella, I love you. So much." I gazed up into his eyes when I smelled the sickly sweet smell of other vampires. I whirled around, and a dark haired vampire stood in an attacking crouch by the shadows of the trees, his crimson eyes on Edward's throat.
