Prompt: "You can't change someone who thinks they're fine. Just get as far away as you can and live your own life, okay?"

"No way," Charles watched the ninja in front of him exasperated as she continued to pack up her belongings. "I can help him, and I refuse to sit by while he sends himself down this road of torture."

"Phantom, be reasonable about this," Charles demanded, stepping up behind her and grabbing her arm. "He'll kill you if you go after him."

"Oak is your brother," she snapped, turning to glare vivid brown eyes to his dark green. "You may have abandoned the honor of your family, but I am not going to let him suffer if I can help. I still honor my family tradition." Charles recoiled as she wrenched her arm free and placed the final set of Kunai into her pouch.

"You think I don't?" He demanded. "You don't know Takehiko like I do, Phantom. He'll kill you."Charles insisted. Phantom stopped and turned softer brown eyes to Charles's desperate greens.

"Then I'll die at the hands of someone I love. In my family, there is no better way to die." Charles made a sound of desperation and pinned Phantom desperately to his body.

"Please don't do this Hikari," he pleaded, crushing her lethal frame to his. "I can't lose both of you too." Phantom's arms came around him tightly, and her face buried into his shoulder as he breathed heavily through the fresh tears beading in his eyes.

"I will stay the night," Phantom promised. "But I leave for Oak in the morning. If we die at the hands of Takehiko, then so be it." Charles held tighter as his grip and body began to shake and tremor. Phantom crooned a sound to soothe the man coming apart in her arms.

"Please, Hikari," Charles begged, hiding his face into the nape of her neck. "Don't do this, if not for me than for the baby."

"Kyou," she murmured, running her fingers through his orange hair. "You know I can't do that. We are Ninja, we have to do what we must to keep our family safe. Our family includes your brother." Phantom held onto Charles tighter as he collapsed into her arms and finally came apart in front of her.

For the first time in recorded history, The Red Demon wept for the deaths that were to come.

Johnathan watched the wide-eyed child with a smile. "Or, so the story said anyway."

"They died because a stubborn person wouldn't back down?!" She cried frustrated. "That's so stupid!" Johnathan laughed but nodded with a grin to the girl in his lap.

"I suppose it is. I did say it was a tragedy." He mentioned poking her stomach.

"B-But I expected fighting and the brothers killing each other!" She whined, going limp has he lifted the injured girl up. "Not for that sappy love story!"

"The brothers did kill each other," Johnathan mentioned calmly. He watched amused as she lit up in excitement. "But that's a story for another night. Bedtime miss Brake."

"Awwww!"
