“Sam.”

Yep, that’s me. I am Samantha, 17 years old and forever alone. Besides the fact that I have an irresponsible father who doesn’t even care that I exist. Well, there’s Jasmine, my best friend, who talks a lot, but never really listens. So I don’t share to anyone anything about me. There’s really no one interested anyway.

“Hey Jas! Where are you going?”

“You see, there’s this new fast food chain in town, and I heard that the burgers are so great. So I wanted to try it. They say, you can never really tell unless you experienced it yourself. And I am a little bit bored at home so I went out. I was supposed to be grounded and…”

“Wait. Wait. What? You are grounded but you are here.”

“Well yeah. My parents didn’t sort of know that I kind of sneaked out for a moment. And besides, they went out to attend a party. What am I supposed to do alone in that boring house?”

“Follow the rules and stay grounded?”

“Come on Sam! You of all people should’ve understood me. Just help me out on this, please?”

“Don’t you dare…”

“That’s what best friends are for, right?”

I sighed. That’s what best friends are for. Really! It has been her favorite line since God-knows-when just to get me do what she wants. Okay. I can’t say no to her. Maybe I have my reasons for not wanting others be disappointed with me. I have had enough disappointment already.

“Alright! Just this once, okay?? But after we eat, go back home and wait for your parents.”

“I promise.” She smiled and winked at me.
