Distance was not an option for the two. They huddled close in the crisp fall air, their bodies shivering. ChanHee gripped LJoe’s jacket, engulfing his arms around the smaller man. Having no place to sleep in the city of Gyeongju, they decided sleeping outside was their only option. A hill beside a lake was where they stayed.  ChanHee wasn’t satisfied with the placement, but it was all they could do. Either that or walk endlessly. This option seemed better. LJoe’s eyes were half-lidded and his arms were wrapped firmly around ChanHee’s waist. The brunette laid his chin on LJoe’s blond head.

“I don’t know why I haven’t asked this earlier but…why did you kill that man?” ChanHee asked.

“He killed my father fifteen years ago on August 8th. It happened when I was living with my mom in America and was in Korea. I couldn’t even see him...” LJoe stated. His mind was overflowing with the scarring memories. He was fourteen, a teenager in a language barrier against Korean and English. His umma took care of him well in the United States, but he didn’t have many friends because of his weak English. His appa stayed in Korea for work. Nothing happened in America, so ByungHun was a dull child. He stayed in the kitchen and watched T.V. most of the time. All of a sudden, his house telephone rang. “Hello?” his umma asked with a strong accent. In a few moments she fell to the ground and mournfully cried. LJoe came out of the kitchen to find his mother in a state of shock and grief. He came up to her and he shook his mother’s arm vigorously. “Umma! Umma! What happened? What’s wrong?” The mother wiped off a few tears before saying, “Appa. He’s…gone.” ByungHun denied everything and kept repeating the words ‘He is alive’. About a week after, they went to his father’s funeral in Korea and the murderer had been revealed. The man’s name (stated on the newspaper) was Park Rae Ri, a former ambassador for the Jeguk company group. Apparently, he wanted revenge for his father’s high pay even though he’s a lot of ranks lower than he. The head manager was LJoe’s father’s friend, so he got paid more than the mightiest ambassador. From that point on, LJoe developed a noticeable grudge against the man, waiting for the moment he got out of jail to do something. A life changing decision…something that may alter his ambitions and dreams. So, he did just that. He killed the ambassador.

LJoe cringed at the thought, pulling ChanHee’s jacket. Silent weeping, wet tears, and scrunched hands were all part of the murderer’s crying habits. ChanHee knew what was going on and embraced the latter knowingly. It’s okay…it’s okay… ChanHee looked up at the sky. The moon. The stars. Was he alone in his childhood? Did he have any friends? I hope he did. How did he go through all those years alone? LJoe clasped ChanHee close to him; ChanHee patting his back.

         “Chunji…don’t leave me. Ever.”

“How can I? Your holding me so tightly I can’t leave.” ChanHee giggled. LJoe smiled gleefully in response.

“Komawo.” LJoe cooed. He stared into the eyes of Chunji, those beautiful brown eyes. ChanHee focused on the LJoe’s glowing reflection from the luminescence of the moon and stars. This in turn made LJoe appeal to Chunji with fasciation. What the heck? Why is my heart beating so fast? Calm down, Chunji… ChanHee thought. ByungHun’s arms snaked around the brunette’s neck and his fingers laced together. ChanHee hesitantly slid his arms around the blonde’s waist, finally closing the gap between his hands. Lips quivering, ChanHee gulped for the incoming moment. LJoe initiated the occasion, leaning in ever so slowly. ChanHee followed. At the time that this was happening, police cars could be heard on the nearby road. Sirens caused ChanHee to jump and LJoe sit up. Thereafter, when the cops were gone, they flunked on to the ground. False alarm. Hmph, good for nothing police. LJoe thought. Maybe Chunji and I could- ChanHee was already asleep, spread out across the grass. Maybe next time… LJoe yawned and joined the other to rest.

ByungHun run! Hurry they’re gaining on us! Clatter of heavy footsteps was growing louder and louder with each step they pair took. They were going to their maximum speed, but they were unable to outrun the crowd behind them. When the duo went fast, the pack was faster. Run! Run! Run! The streetlights shut off and now there was a complete darkness. Continuing, they shot down the street like a bullet. Surrounding objects seemed to disappear into thin air, for they could not feel anything around them. Footsteps were gradually becoming softer and softer until nothing could be heard. ChanHee panted and tried to maintain a steady breath. LJoe didn’t feel too exhausted, but his heart rate was tremendously fast- as expected. LJoe spotted a bright light ahead of them in the darkness. He tapped ChanHee on the back then told him there was a light ahead. ChanHee said it wasn’t the right way. How is it not the right way? It’s always the right way in movies. Going ahead, LJoe trudged towards the light. Closer he went. Closer. Closer. ByungHun no! LJoe paused and looked at the light. Honk! A truck crashed into him, causing LJoe to crack the window. The truck came to a screeching halt, nearly tipping over at an angle. Blinding light from the streetlights returned to the streets and ChanHee was kneeling beside his broken comrade. LJoe…hey… talk to me…. He lifted LJoe’s head, caressing him with his cold hands. Blood dripped in small amounts out of LJoe’s mouth and the front of his body was bleeding heavily. His vision was burry but could make out ChanHee’s face just fine. ChanHee’s cheeks were rosy red with sappy tears and a grief filled frown. Don’t leave! Please…don’t go! LJoe smiled with a bloodstained face. I didn’t want you to leave, but I’m leaving you. I’m sorry, Chunji. We’ll see each other again. I’m sorry I made your life a mess… Go to another city, another country if you have to. You-you must to go far away where no one could find you…my love. Forcing a smile, LJoe’s eyes fluttered and shut forever. ChanHee shook his head in disbelief reciting ‘He’s not dead’. LJoe’s body remained limp and ChanHee screamed his lungs out. Hot tears fell onto the body, soaking into the clothes of the man. What am I to do now!? Wae!? Wae…

Precipitously, the brunette awoke. It was the beginning of sunrise; sun barely surfacing in the horizon. It was only a nightmare… Sitting up, he glanced down at LJoe dubiously. I’ll never leave you so don’t never leave me, ChanHee thought. His eyes were droopy and he fell asleep once more.

Morning came and the sky was a turquoise blue. LJoe and ChanHee roamed the terrain at ease. They found a newsstand and LJoe stole a copy for the two of them. ChanHee peered down at the paper; LJoe’s head partially blocking his view. Examining, LJoe read through every article with slick eyes. LJoe gaped at one of the articles, eyes widening.

         “We’re screwed.”
