“Oh, shit. Wrong pocket,” Percy said fumbling through this back left pocket. He pulled out a robin egg blue curved box.
“OH MY GODS. Is that what I think it is?” Frank exclaimed.
“Shh! Yes it is. I’ve had it on me for about a month now. My mom, Thalia, Clarisse, Hazel and Piper helped me pick it out. I made them as swear to secrecy to not tell anyone. That’s why lately I’ve been avoiding all of them and trying to spend lots of time with Annabeth because they keep trying to bombard me to finally ask her,” Percy said quickly.
“Wow. Percy, man, why haven’t you asked her yet?”
“I’m so, so, so nervous! Frank, I don’t think I can do this! I want everything to be perfect and it’s—it’s so hard to find the right moment. Plus, I want to ask her in a really special way, but all the ideas the girls told me were really good, but not what I want for her.”
“Geez. That sounds like something that I honestly can’t help you with. My best advice is to pray to Aphrodite and give her part of your burnt offerings at dinner. But, do you know what you are going to say to her when you are on your knee? You don’t want to look like a complete fool when you don’t know what to say. At least figure that out. The fancy-shamcy stuff can come later.”
“Good point!” Percy relaxed a bit when he realized that he could talk to someone about this whole ordeal without them pressuring him to ask her every other sentence. “Oh crap. I honestly don’t know what to say. I don’t want to be cheesy!
“Hey calm down. We can figure it out,” Frank tried to cool him down Percy who clearly had been on edge with this whole ordeal for the past month. I mean, it takes guts to actually hold in in this whole time.
“Oh man, this is such an awkward question, but can I practice on you?” Percy warily asked.
“Uh… Sure! No problem, but if someone comes in here—you know what? I’m not even going to think about that.”
“Thanks Frank! You are the best!” Percy’s nervous smile morphed into a huge infectious grin making Frank smile too and ease up. Percy got down on one knee in front of Frank. (a/n omg. Imagine that sentence out of context)
“Dude. Is this necessary? It feels uncomfortable,” Frank was fidgeting trying to avoid looking at Percy.
Percy pleaded with his irresistible watery puppy eyes, “Pleaseeeee Frank. I’m only practicing.” It is scientifically proven that not a single creature could say no to Perseus Jackson’s eyes, be they god, mortal or an animal. So, Frank being part of all of them clearly gave into Percy’s wishes.
Sighing Frank said, “Fineeee. Go ahead. This is probably the weirdest thing I’ve done in my whole life.”
“You’re telling me,” Percy muttered under his breath, “try being on my end of it.”
Percy opened up the Tiffany’s box and started, “ My dearest Annabeth. Ever since I met you all those years ago I have loved you—“
Frank interrupted, “No. No. No. Stop. You honestly did not love her all those years ago. You were like 11. You probably just had a crush on her. Don’t lie. It’s makes it less genuine and cliché.”
Percy whistled, “Woah! Frank you know your stuff! Okay. Let me try again.”
“We are going to be here all day,” Frank muttered under his breath.
“I heard that Zhang.”
“I mean for you to,” Frank laughed, “Try again. I won’t interrupt until the end. I promise”
“My dearest love. There is no way to express my love for you. Since day one, I knew that you were someone I wanted by my side. But we were so young. How was I supposed to know that you would become such an amazing friend, my closest confident and someone I want to spend the rest of my life with. I love you Annabeth. Will you mar—“
Once again, the door was flung open. Sunlight streamed in the dimly watery-lit cabin. A figure stood in the doorway, but it was hard to make out whom it was, as Frank and Percy’s eyes had not attuned to the sunlight.
“Oh shit,” yeah, Percy’s eyes just adjusted.
