Stevie felt as if she was losing her mind, escaping from the tub as she reached for her robe, scrambling out of the bathroom to the phone on her nightstand.
"Karen, I think someone is in my condo," whispering through the phone.
"What? What are you talking about, Stevie?"
"Lily has been acting strange; it's almost as if she senses someone."
"Jesus, Stevie, you are frightening me."
"I don't know if I am losing my mind or if my suspicions are correct."
"Stay there, stay right there," Karen hung up as she left her condo a few flights below, heading to the elevator to Stevie's front door.
Stevie sat on the bed in a panic, the water from the tub dripping down her face. Karen checked every spot in her condo, wanting to make sure that her boss was wrong, then knocking on the bedroom door.
"Stevie, it's Karen, there's no one here."
Letting out a sigh of relief, Stevie made her way towards the door, opening it and falling in to Karen's arms. "I am so sorry, Karen, I think I'm losing my mind. I don't know how else to explain it."
"Alright, calm down, lets have a seat," escorting her to the desk chair. "You're stressing out over Lindsey, that is what is going on, I'm sure of it."
Placing a hand to her face, Stevie cried, nodding.
"You can't do this to yourself, Stevie, you'll make it worse."
"I saw him..."
"Who? Who are you seeing?"
"Lindsey..."
"Now Stevie that is impossible, he is in a coma."
"What if it's not him but his soul reaching out to me?"
Karen shook her head. "Alright, let's get you in to that bed."
"Please, Karen, I've heard of these things before."
"You're level of stress is what you're seeing," helping Stevie stand from the chair as she walked her to the bed.
"Will you stay?" asked Stevie.
"Of course I'll stay; I'll stay right in the Family room," helping Stevie in to bed as she pulled the covers over her. "I know that you miss him, that you want to talk to him again," smoothing back her hair, "...but there's no one here, Stevie."
Nodding, Stevie still felt her assistant was wrong, making up her own mind and wanting to explore the situation further.
"I'm sorry, Stevie, I never meant to scare you..." Lindsey said after Karen left, watching as Stevie lifted her head up to look about her room. "I guess maybe that was a stupid idea, huh? I just need you, Stevie, so much. To have you know that I am here, that is all I wanted..."
The next morning, Stevie went out of her way to find a Medium, calling up her niece, Jessie.
"Hey, Jess!"
"Aunt Stevie, hi, oh my God - it's so good to hear from you!"
"I know, baby, I miss you. I promise that I'll be there to visit you and the baby soon."
"You should, Stevie, it would mean so much."
"Of course, it's on my list and it's not far away! I need to ask for your assistance though," wincing.
"Sure, what do you need?"
"I need..." keeping her voice low in case Karen was still there, "...a Medium."
