Do you ever think about the consequences?

As you sit all alone in your room?

Tears running down your face,

Asking yourself,

Is it worth it?

Is it worth waking up

Just to see the sun rise each morning,

To feel the warmth upon your face,

To hear the birds sing outside your window.

Walking past unfamiliar faces

In the hallways at school.

Head down, pretending not to hear

As people wonder why you never smile.

Listening to the questions at dinner.

"How was your day?"

You fake a smile as you answer,

"Fine."

They ask about your friends,

You haven't spoken to in months.

Wondering about how you did on that big test,

Never knowing you spent that class

In a bathroom stall, silently crying,

Asking yourself,

Was today worth it?

Do you ever think about what life would be like afterwards?

After you stopped asking

Is it worth it?

And started saying your goodbyes?

Ending your pain?

Would you be missed?

Would anyone care?

Or would your friends forget you,

Parents focus only on work or your siblings,

Teachers and classmates see an empty desk.

The truth is

People only notice once you're gone.

Never tried to help until it was too late

The tears would never dry

Time would only increase the pain.

Friends would wonder,

Was this my fault?

Classmates, teachers would ask themselves,

Could I have helped?

Your parents would blame themselves,

Wondering how they missed the signs,

How they never saw your pain.

Did you ever think about the consequences?

As you sat all alone in your room,

With tears running down your face?

And when you asked yourself,

Is it worth it to carry on?

Then you looked up,

Felt the sun's warmth on your face,

Heard birds singing outside,

Watched your parents smile

As you walked down the stairs

And answered the question on your mind.

Is it worth it?

"Yes."
