let's kick it back, like the old days
those stupid games and lana del rey
singing about sadness and sex and
cigarettes, i guess we could relate
or maybe we just really
wanted tosnog marry avoid, girls and boys
transparent distractions from the noise
in our heads, when we lay down in bed
and found horrors behind our eyelids
but we were pretty good at
postponing silenceglitch in the maze, we weren't fazed
kids back then, we were easily amazed
we'd reinvent fun in a hundred different
ways, but us ankle biters caught
too much heat in those
dog daysmaybe we thought we'd be young forever
or thought we'd grow up and it'd all get
better, have some fun in the meantime
hope to sail the rough seas
but our naïveté was just a
happy diseasethen we found reality, an unwanted cure
told our doctors we didn't want any more
but it was too late, 'cause we'd been
exposed and the truth made us choke;
the dark parts inside us had all
been provokedlet's not linger on what happened next
on the chaos that ensued inside of our
heads, a switch had been flicked
and all of our lights burned out
some days i think we're
better withoutwhen you look back, remember the good
don't think of what killed our ability to
love, but of everything that made us
smile, just for a little while at least
those are all the memories
we needremember the home we found in each
other, whoever said friends aren't better
than lovers? damaged kids stick side
by side, i'll keep you afloat in the rising
tide; with me you'll never have
to hideso let's kick it back, like the old days
replay the anthems of our summer haze
let's forget that we're so depressed
close our tired eyes and finally rest -
if we never wake up i'll consider
us blessed
