Sophomore year
"I like you."
Louis wishes that he knew before he said those three words that they were going to ruin all the progress he had made with Harry.
"W-what?" Harry said and Louis' smile falls as Harry scoots away from him from where they sat on Louis' bed.
"I-"
"No you don't." Harry says and Louis furrows his eyebrows.
"Yes... I do."
"No you like the thought of me. The sad boy you can fix. Or do you just want to experiment with me or something?" Harry rambles and Louis shakes his head quickly.
"No! I like you as a person you idiot!" Louis says and Harry whimpers.
"I-I don't trust you." Harry says and Louis feels his heart break.
Harry trusted him, as a friend. No one wants to be with Harry. Why would a perfect boy like Louis want to be his boyfriend?
"Why not?" Louis asks softly and reaches out to take Harry's hand. Harry's pulls his hand away.
"You- you're too perfect. Why would you want me?" Harry asks and Louis just wants to cover his ears to block out all the terrible things Harry is saying about himself.
"Why would I not want to be with you?"
"I'm annoying, sad, clingy, I'm too scared to show my emotions because I don't like feeling vulnerable like I do right now and sometimes I think about killing myself! What kind of sane person thinks about dying?!" Harry says as tears begin to cloud his eyes.
"Harry I don't care! I like you because you're funny, cute and if I'm in a bad mood all you have to do is smile and I'll feel better! We can make this work! We can-"
"No."
"Harry-"
"No! I like you but you deserve someone who can actually give you something in return." Harry says and Louis feels tears clouding his eyes as Harry begins to get off his bed.
"Harry please. I don't want anyone else." Louis says but Harry just squeezes his eyes shut and leaves Louis room, quickly making his way out of the house and successfully avoiding Louis' siblings and parents.
