“Riverpaw, wake up!” A voice called. “Coming, Wildspirit!” Riverpaw called. She stretched and looked around the empty den. “Hurry up! I wanna go hunt, sis!” Snowpaw called into the den. Riverpaw walked swiftly out of the den. “We’re hunting?” She asked Snowpaw. Snowpaw nodded and walked to where Featherclaw and Wildspirit where waiting. “Grab a bite and meet us by the fallen tree!” Featherclaw ordered before walking out of the camp, along with Wildspirit.
Riverpaw went to the fresh-kill pile and grabbed a shrew and mouse. She brought the prey over to Snowpaw. “Which one you want?” Riverpaw asked. “Use proper sentences, River” Snow hissed under her breath. “Fine… Which one do you want, Snowpaw” River repeated as one of the other apprentices walked by them. They hissed, “I’m glad I’ll be a warrior before you two. Too bad It’s still 5 moons away”
Riverpaw hissed back at them. The apprentice left. Snowpaw ate the mouse, while Riverpaw ate the shrew. “Let’s go!” Snowpaw said and dashed out of camp. Riverpaw followed closely behind.
“We’re here!” Snowpaw called out of breath. Featherclaw guided Snowpaw away from the clearing. “We’re hunting till sun-high then meeting back here” Wildspirit told Riverpaw. Riverpaw nodded. “Follow me!” Wildspirit said as he walked away. Riverpaw walked at his side. “Riverpaw! You’re going to scare the prey away from here to Windclan!” Wildspirit yowled at Riverpaw. “You’re going to if you keep yelling at me!” She retorted.
“See that bird? Catch it!”Wildspirit ordered Riverpaw. She nodded and got into the hunter’s crouch. Riverpaw slowly crept toward the bird. The bird let a call of alarm out before Riverpaw could pounce. The bird flew into the air, away from the cats below. “Fox-dung!” Riverpaw cursed as she sat on the ground.
“You were too slow!” Wildspirit told her. “Try again!” he said pointing to the bird, who landed again. Riverpaw nodded and crept toward the bird faster. She sprang onto the bird and quickly slit its throat. “You need to be careful! Now all the blood is running out of the bird!” Wildspirit told her. Riverpaw lowered her head and tail.
“One last try! After this we have to head back!” Wildspirit said as he pointed to a frog. Riverpaw dropped the bird silently and crept toward the frog. She pounced too soon and the frog hopped to safety. “Fox-dung!” Riverpaw said under her breath as she walked back to Wildspirit. “Grab your bird and let’s go” Wildspirit said. Riverpaw nodded as picked up the bird, making sure to not look at the blood. “Why are your eyes closed?” Wildspirit asked. “I don’t like blood” Riverpaw told him. Wildspirit walked back to the fallen tree. Riverpaw followed.
